I'm reminded that you did not answer the T/F question as to whether the arguably most successful music station in the US* looks right at Women 25-34 when they get a book.

(Probably they look at Hispanic Women 25-54 at the same time... since that is the largest single component of their audience)

You might consider how stations research. If they do callout, or AMTs, they won't research the whole 18-49 or 25-54 or whatever... it is far more common to target the few years surrounding the median target age... a target median age of 30 might test 22-38. A rhythmic leaning CHR might test only women, too. As a result, looking at the demos... or custom demos in PPM markets... is tied to the way a station tests and targets.

Of course, this is a long way from the CPP against 18-49.

Micro demos, big fish in a little pond, cat fight, dog fight, ratings bragging war, who really cares? I don't listen to commercials because they never advertise anything that I use or spend my money on. They are an annoying, irritating nuisance and an opportunity channel/station flip. Besides, there aren't any radio stations worth listening to here in SATX, unless one is a weight-challenged single parent or a pajama model circus freakshow reject with their costume dragging around their ankles. Oh, I forgot about those cowboy pickup truck people and those non english speaking future progressive liberals. They have their stations, too.

David - there's no point arguing with these kinds of people. They don't realize you've forgotten more about programming and sales than they will ever know.

You are correct that a station has to find a hypertarget. No one goes and out and researches or sells 6+. They need a core 10-year age range generally that they target.

For a station like KTFM, they look at sales demos like Women 25-54 where back in June they had 39% of Mix's share and today they have 71%. That's more important than the 6+ beauty contest that Arbitron releases to the media.

Last I checked with most GM's and GSM's I've worked with, they really like those Women 25-54 numbers as a number of major categories buy that demo.

I'm not discounting 6-17 year-olds, but they're not on most buys.

BTW, the highest billing cluster in America is CC/L.A. and they own 18-54 females in L.A. with KIIS, KOST, KBIG, KHHT, and to a lesser extent KYSR. I would bet the female dominant adult ratings drive those $$
