Mark Christopher filling in for Ankarlo

Congratulations are in order for Mark--he won Best Talk Show Host honors last week at the AIR Awards. 8)

Looks like Mark got a job at KTRS in St. Louis, so he should be OK. He's on the schedule. He's doing his show from here until he can get moved.

Good news! Mark will do well, I'm sure.

As for him filling in for Darrell Ankarlo--well, Mark is a much better host. Never got Ankarlo's appeal.

I agree wholeheartly with you on Ankarlo. I have never understood Ankarlo's appeal, either. Some of the stuff he use to do on the air, I never found amusing or humourous, such as he was eating cereral one morning on the air and judging but the crunch he made as he was eating, you had to guess what cereral he was eating. Imo, that showed he was not prepared for his show that morning and a lack of talent. I also found him very patronizing and seemed to TALK DOWN to listeners, like he was much smarter than the people that we listening to him.

I remember when his kid was arrested for something at his school and have since wondered if it wasn't some sort of publicity stunt. His show always gave me the impression Ankarlo would pull something like that.

You are right, jwk1979 doesn't know crap about AM. Sounds like a jock wanna be. It depends on the efficency of the tower, frequency, ground system, etc and a lot of factors on how good an AM station preforms. He's not an engineer.

I've seen flea powers of 5 watts go just as good as 250 watts on the high end of the AM dial. Just because a station is licensed at 500 watts doesn't mean it's signal isn't going far.

I wasn't saying that all 500 watt AM signals have weak signals, I was stating that of the stations Steve Gill's show airs in East Tennessee all are weak signal stations that do not have much coverage area. I know this for a fact because I grew up in East Tennessee and every station that his show air on there has very poor coverage.

And I apologize for not being as INTELLAGENT and KNOW AS MUCH AS YOU THINK YOU DO, ROCK011, and for NOT BEING PATRONIZING to everyone on this board AS YOU ARE!!!

Patronizing, I didn't know I was suppose to come here to buy anything? (HA!)

The reason that stations at that power in East TN do not go that far is because of Ground Conductivity. This is according to the FCC's Ground Conductivity Map of the US on thier website.

You can take the same facility (station) and go out to say Kansas with it, where the ground conductivity is great, and that little 500 watt station will go 120 miles. Here, you do go to get 8-10 within it's licensed 5 mv/m.

On a personal note:
I'm not picking on you, but there is so much you need to learn. I don't know everything, I'm still learning and want to learn more. What burns me up is there are so many here that are "Jock wanna be's, and there is more to this business besides being on the air and formats. It's about making money to stay afloat. Without money, the station is sold or goes dark!
