Knowing Scripps current reputation of gutting their staff to save money, he won't be the last to disappear from WEWS.

But if you have a pulse, little to no TV experience, and wish to do the work of 2-3 people for a few bucks over the minimum wage, then YOU could work for Scripps! Apply today!

Budget-related downsizing does not include press releases saying "we care about the ethical standards of our employees, so-and-so is no longer with channel 1 eyeball news".

Definately an ethics issue based on the wording of the PR.
Still like to know what he did. Make googly eyes and wolf whistles at The Weather Channel? Was caught cribbing forecasts from Jeff Tanchak? Having a little menage a trois with the weather graphics computer? Make an X-rated spoof of a weather forecast? Applications/resume to 3, 8, 19 accidentally exposed? Inquiring minds would like to know!

Apparantly, per ftvlive.com, Mark "apparently" was plugging a restaurant he frequents on his Facebook page, which caused Scripps to go apes"it.

If I had a dollar for every other news personality who gave shout outs for food and products they've had on their FB pages or every news personality that posted selfies not related to any news story, or stupid little dance videos, not only would I be rich, but not many people would be left to do the news, sports or weather.

I'm on the boat that Scripps was looking for anything Mark did that could be used as an excuse to can him and his huge salary.

The truth is out there. It just may take a while

If that is why, what a load of garbage. Geesh.
I always enjoyed watching him when I visited the in-laws in Conneaut or I was on a work trip to northeast Ohio, usually Akron, Mansfield or Wooster. If this is why, and not something like harassment or other questionable behavior, he will land on his feet relatively quickly. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he lands at 8 or 19 in the future.

I take it that this was basically free advertising of the restaurant on his FB, and in turn was a violation of his contract, as that could have been something that the station may have been able to cash in on if the restaurant bought ad time on air or ad space on their website, app, etc. Still, I think this decision was a bit extreme, and could have been handled better other than being dismissed by management. As mentioned by thenetwork, it could have been an excuse to make the position available and hire someone younger at a lower salary.

We'll see how long it will be until Scripps/WEWS fires someone for accidentally tossing a plastic bottle in the wrong recycle bin.

I heard on the radio yesterday it is "alledged" that he was using the company computer to view something he shouldn't have and against company policy.. He recently signed a four year contract extension so the accusation must have been serious..

What rubs me the wrong way is that when social media was first the rage, most TV stations encouraged and/or "required" their talent to engage in the various social media platforms. Their FB or Twitter account was listed below their name in the chyron graphic, and many had to post on a daily basis -- usually something going on in their everyday world, whether it was a photo, video, or a simple sentence or two.

Some will keep it professional and only post about news stories or things happening behind the scenes at work. Others, especially the younger talent, will post selfies in somewhat sexy outfits, or "all about me" videos that can double as a dating site post.

Lately, some of the more respectable personalities I follow have cut back or eliminated their regular posts as the initial rage has come and gone. Nor does the station insert their FB name in the chyron graphics anymore.

So when a personality posts a photo or a video of somewhere they recently visited to show they have a life outside the studio, and they say where they are at, it can be used against them if the station wants to push them out.

And yet the dancing videos, face pouts, and smiling selfies while at a not so happy news scene by the younger talent continue with little to no repercussions.

Very interesting...

Wow. He is from my wife's hometown and my in-laws know some of his family.
Those are some talented meteorologists not on the air at the moment.

If a station wants to fire someone, they will take a relatively small event and blow it up big time. If a station wants to keep you, they will ignore the same event or worse.
