Mark has apparently retained a lawyer who has issued a statement. Here's the update from FTV Live: Fired Cleveland Anchor Lawyers Up — FTVLive.
Overall, FTVLive is a great source of information as far as what is happening in television. News in general.
That being said, there is also an equal amount of biased reporting and repeatedly going after specific people he feels do not fit his squeaky-clean image of what a news, sports or weather person should be on and off the camera.
It's one thing to chastise someone who uses their station's social media account to post "all about me" selfies and videos as if it it's a dating website, but to pick and choose certain long-term personalities and literally plea to station execs to fire or reprimand these people for their actions and then continue to call them out once they are gone from the airwaves is going a bit too far.

My opinion of FTVLive is a lot lower than that. Scott Jones has often let his biases seep into his writing (especially his potshots at Tegna and Scripps) and I don’t consider him to be anything close to a reliable source. Someone might want to let him know it’s no longer 1989, or 2009 and that the anchor desk no longer is supposed to be this "sacred place".

He writes about Scripps and Tegna like a jilted lover and seems to want to have anchors be like Kent Brockman.
He is so gung ho about keeping news talent walking the fine line of professionalism, yet FTV Live sets up a paywall for certain stories, sells FTV Live merchandise, and has occasional free money giveaways.

Which is ridiculous. I've seen other local news people post restaurant locations.

His WKYC job was a second job for him. He has been employed by a local funeral home as a funeral assistant and their director of I.T.
Sorry to see Mark Johnson go. Classy guy and probably most well known meteorologist in area since Dick Goddard retired. I hope another channel picks him up. Fox 8 could definitely use him for their 6 and 10pm weather.
Often when long running personalities are fired, it almost always has to do with money.
Of course he lawyered up. Getting axed like that makes him seem like "damaged goods" to other potential employers.
But who's going to be the head cheese when all is said and done?
Betsy still claims the title Chief. Matt is Senior, so who knows!
WKYC is always in last place when it comes to local news ratings, so perhaps hiring Mark Johnson would drastically help improve their ratings. It must be working, as many viewers have said that they've left WEWS for WKYC.
I don't know about News 5 anymore. All they cover now are the top stories, weather & sports, and the rest is pre-recorded content from Scripps and their sister stations. It's like they're trying to fall into last place.
Ch. 5 used to be my go to. They have been a mess for several years. I don't like Rob, he seems arrogant.
