Michael Berry Accoused Of A Hit And Run Charges Comming

wpb1999 said:
Why in the pure de hell of things was he at a damn gay bar??????? And now, after watching the report on TV, was he intentionally hitting the car of the gay bar bouncer, Tuderia Bennett, for him doing something. It said that he backed up 70 FEET! No one does that unintentionally. And, it has nothing to do with being conservative as people on this board are saying (see above me^). plenty of Democrats denounce gay marriage (even our socialist president). There are hypocrites on both sides of the spectrum. No one has said this, but what if he was in the gay bar to see what it was like and then make fun of them in his show......... not likely, BUT POSSIBLE.

It's not the first time Herr Berry has ventured into Montrose after dark...

Oh, my stars, where to begin.

First and foremost, my heart goes out to any gay man who is publicly outed in a manner not of his choice. Doesn't matter if he's a flaming d-bag when it comes to other peoples' rights, this is a tough place for any man to be in and I wish anyone in this position tranquility, courage, and a brave circle of loved ones who will undoubtedly extend to him the tolerance he may find so difficult to extend to others. Self-loathing is a killer and it's hard for me to cackle with glee, watching someone from either party go through this. I don't like a thing Michael Berry has to say on the air and I hate what he represents, but, like they taught us in kindergarten, often the biggest bullies are the ones with the most insecurity. If such is the case, I'm sorry for him and hope it gets better for him, too, and his family members who must deal with private, possibly painful details of their lives and marriages suddenly thrust into the spotlight.

That said...oh, my soul, where to begin.

a.) Perez Hilton. My goodness.

b.) @rageradio: Some would answer your question with a most emphatic yes. http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-big-questions/201106/homophobic-men-most-aroused-gay-male-porn

c.) @Filio, although I find your theory most plausible, there's absolutely no breath or blood evidence of DWI and so we cannot assume it was the case. But I do know that any DWI/DUI lawyer in Houston worth his salt will tell you that reckless driving and leaving the scene are preferrable charges in Harris County than DWI with a collision (as despicable as we may find it to flee the scene of a place where one has allegedly reversed 70 feet on a crowded street and plowed the venue staff's car, causing significant property damage and endangering anyone else who happened to be on the public street that evening).

d.) I find it troubling that an eyewitness and a license plate are not sufficient to charge any suspected hit and run driver. It occurs to me that many people in the Harris County and City jails who have been identified in this manner, by witnesses who didn't know their names at the time, may have been convicted as a result of these self-same identification markers. Those other inmates should consult with their attorneys, as they may be entitled to a review of the state's evidence against them to determine whether or not they got a raw deal. If a victim/eyewitness who wrote down the tag number isn't sufficient for HPD to bring charges, this could be a revolutionary new way that HPD conducts these kinds of investigations, and we should all pay close attention to this abrupt new change in policy.

e.) However, Michael Berry has committed no crime by (allegedly, according to venue staff) enjoying the drag show on a regular basis. If he is seeking a warm and welcoming group of like-minded individuals, consensus is that at least TC's is trying to bring in better talent from out of town and the drink prices can't be beat. Being in a gay bar isn't a crime.

f.) Of of the strengths touted when Former Councilman Berry first joined the Clear Channel family is that he wasn't a radio veteran. This may have come back to bite him, since most industry pros are aware of the PeeWee Lesson: if you job is kids, don't get caught with your willy out in public. If your job is riling up the Conservative base with cultural-war hotbuttons, it might be a good idea to think of your image before you hit the drag show and destroy another's vehicle. Allegedly.

g.) I am no longer surprised when certain media companies attempt to restrict the flow of information which could prove embarrassing to their operation or brand. I'm thinking of layoffs timed to coincide with national political events, train derailements with toxic gas clouds released, or the stray cash-cow host who may have been arrested in a Miami airport coming home from the Dominican Republic with Viagra prescribed in someone else's name but instead admits only that he has a prescription drug problem due to a back injury. You know, hypothetically, of course. My guess is that the local television stations did their work to prevent this story from being buried, and they did it well, and should be commended.

h.) I am relieved to live in an area where there is not a complete one-media-company monopoly on stories of local news interest.

What a hot topic this is. A check of the chron.com blog on this story revealed 47 pages of comments, all appearing in about a day and a half.

Well said, beginning to end!

T.C.'s, the bar in question, has a new shot: The Berry Bomb. Just $2.50.
(I'll leave it up to this board's readers to answer the question, "You have one, and then ...")

I really couldn't care the hell less but I looked up the bar and went to their website......

It talks about showgirls........... HOW IS IT A GAY BAR?

. It's really very simple. The showgirls were born with boy parts.

Wiki aside, it's that building you drive by down in the Montrose with the cool 45 painted on the front where they do the drag shows. You'll never find me hating on anybody patronizing shows of whatever variety floats their boat, but whether it's a gay show or a pool hall or a blues club or a Sunday jazz brunch, you don't get to tear up cars in the parking lot. I have complete confidence in this Montrose bouncer, who gets paid to both watch the parking lot for anti-gay violence and theft, and to remove troublemakers who get aggressive inside the club when they realize that they're queer as folk and they start not dealing with it well around the dancers. If they say it's Michael Berry, I don't doubt it.

I would listen to all four segments of a courageous epiphany and course-change on equality. I can think of at least one other politician who stepped down after a similar scandal. He came back later to calmly apologize for the harm he caused as a legislator and to announce that as a gay man he had reversed his position on certain party lines. My friends call me an idealist, and I will keep waiting for more voices who experience this to join that lone guy, but I don't really expect that day will be today.

P. S. I've run my previous comments past several LGBT friends and am assured that the phrase "queer as folk" is not particularly offensive in this context. Should you discover you are offended, please accept my apologies.

A Facebook writer explained the 70-feet backward drive as the fact that Michael was backing up to say hello to someone but in the process hit the doorman's car. That was no big deal. You apologize, exchange insurance info, and be on your way. But the "run" part of the "hit and run" is a big deal. And, of course, the police coverup, if there was one, if pretty big.

Anyway, I'm on my way to T.C.'s myself right now for a cocktail. ($1.50 vodka all day today.) I'll be taking a cab. If I learn any thing else significant, I'll post it here, fellow media people.

Obviously, you didn't look deep enough:

http://www.tcshowbar.com/

"Showgirls" would be a reference to men in dresses, i.e. performing on drag"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_queen

I thought Showgirls was about female strippers.

P.S. Wikipedia isn't the best resource.

Allow me to opine just a bit more. Most big cities have a "gay-bor-hood" or an area with a high concentration of same sex households (gay), gay oriented businesses, bars etc. TCs Showbar is in Houston's gay-bor-hood (Montrose). The cities largest gay dancefloor is less than 1000 feet from this bar and there are other gay businesses on every corner surrounding this place. He knew where he was going.

Went out last night and the alleged incident, and subsequent police inaction, were on everybody's lips. We attend brunch every Sunday with a large group of diverse friends; it was all they wanted to talk about. The waiter made a comment. I overheard a punchline at another table when I went to the Ladies' room. Kudos to KPRC. They certainly got Houston talking.

What if it is a publicity stunt?

"Gay-bor-hood?" Really?
