Jealous Kind Of Fella" is another great one and you never hear it.

do you mean "Stubborn Kind Of Fellow" by Marvin Gaye?(the Vandellas did backup vocals on that, and "Hitchhike")

"Jealous Kind of Fella" by Garland Green reached number 5 on the R&B charts in 1969.
However the two you mentioned by Marvin Gaye are excellent too.

The great Marv Johnson one of the most underrated artist in Soul music...most stations only program "You Got what It Takes".... If they program him at all, he had a great sound somewhere between Jackie Wilson and Bobby Hendrix. And he was a big factor in the early success of Motown records, as singer, song writer and producer. Good picks radioman and everyone else too , It's all Good !!!! Keep doing that Soulful Strut.

More marv Johnson

Come To Me ..........often mistaken for Jackie Wilson on this cut (one of the first ever Motown releases, might first ever ??)

I agree about Marv Johnson. Several years ago when WRLL "RealOldies" was on the air in Chicago they played other Marv Johnson records such as "I Love The Way You Love Me". Nice to hear something other than "You Got What it Takes" which is a good song, but as you point out Marv was much more than just that.

Speaking of Diana Ross, I've always loved her but I have to admit, her version of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" still to this day sends that same kind of chill up my leg Chris Matthews occasionally gets. LOL. Anyway, when that song was popular back in 1970, if I was driving around with the windows down, I think Toledo was able to hear that song and I was in NJ at the time.

This string has made me realize just how many songs I don't know. I guess I've always gravitated to the biggest hits. I'm sure I'm repeating songs that have been already listed as this string is very long, but I love virtually anything Earth, Wind and Fire have done. But "That's the Way of the World" is my all time favorite from them and is in my Top 5 favs of all time along with the aforementioned Ms. Ross. I'd list more but I'm sure they have already been mentioned.

The EW&F Lp ? (I forget the title) had the song "Shining Star" which segued into (no break) "Thatt's The Way Of The World" very cool. Similar to Santana's "Black Magic Woman" and "Oye Como Va" from Abraxas.

You have a fantastic recollection. I remember being at a party and hearing that EW&F LP and thought it sounded sooooo good. I'd like to get my hands on that today, it's a keeper. Also, I recall hearing Moms Mabley do her version of Abraham, Martin & John on the old Merv Griffin Show. She was a frequent guest and funny as hell.

Keep the hits AND the great memories alive!

I had a fantastic recollection...most of the time I can't remember what I had for breakfest. But I do remember a lot of the Casey Kasem stories on his weekly countdown, which he probably (I'm guessing here) got from the Norm Nite publications "Rock On" vol 1 and 2 .......my copies have more scotch tape than a Staples store. And of course I taped the mega documentary "The History of Rock and Roll" and listened to it over and over and over. When The EW&F lp came out, I was blown away, along with the Ohio Players and BT Express so here goes some more soul from the early 70's. Also, In the mid-seventies Soul was starting to be called Funk....with the emergence of George Clinton, Bootsy Collins and a heavier James Brown sound with his move from King records to the Polydor label...pretty goooood stuff.

Do It Till You're Satisfied - BT Express
Here Comes The Express - BT Express
Love Rollercoaster - Ohio Players

Pick Up The Pieces - AWB
