Good one! ;D

Ya just never know what you might find. Heh heh heh

Once again I shall go with the obvious:

"Midnight Train To Georgia" - Gladys Knight & The Pips; originally supposed to be "Midnight Plane To Texas", if I am not mistaken.

Hitch Hike - Marvin Gaye

Close Silkie...."Midnight Plane To Houston", recorded first by the author Jim Weatherly, It was changed to 'Midnight Train To Georgia" for the next version by Cissy Houston, Then It went to Gladys, she took it to #1. Some historians claim the song was originally planned for Glen Campbell, never confirmed.

here's couple

Gil Scott Heron...Inner City Blues (Makes Me Wanna Holler) 1999 sorry but it's good
Pleasure.....Ghettos of the Mind
Kool & The Gang..........Dujii
Slave & Steve Arrington.....Starting Over
James Brown......Coldblooded
William Devaughn..........Just Be Thankful For What You Got (I think someone mentioned already?)
Manhattans.........Shining Star
Ray Parker Jr. & Raydio...........Jack And Jill
The Emotions......Flowers/Think it Over
King Curtis.......Get Ready
Idris Muhammad.......... Could Heaven Ever Be Like this
Main Ingredient.............Summer Breeze
Harold Melvin & Sharon Page........Hope That We Can Be Together Soon

Some of these are probably repeats....(sorry if so)

Hornet, thank you. I was mistaken, but at least in the right state. LOL

But I know you'll love this one by The Platters

Another great version of "Sixteen Tons: (the best as far as I am concerned) came from The Platters. The best sounding version is on The Platters Greatest Hits CD. Excellent stuff.

Not too many folks know about the Platters version of 16 Tons...very good find. Yeah, its on the same compilation I have, it includes , some King, plus Musicor and all the Mercury stuff....its hard to find a compilation with all the labels that an artist recorded on, even when its a subsidiary like Mercury and Musicor. the Musicor recordings were the second generation Platters without Tony Williams(orig lead) and Zola Taylor, and featured a new variety of leads, which included Sonny Turner and former Flamingo Nate Nelson.

Now those are some heavy hitter cuts you got there, Gil Scott Herron, Slave, Idris, Pleasure...very cool......The Pendergrass/Paige and the Timmy Thomas have been listed before, but not the rest, good stuff.
Have you heard King Curtis version Of Led Zepplins "Whole Lotta Love" pretty heavy......"Summer Breeze" is that main Ingredient or Isley Brothers ? You only hear Gil Scott Herron on free form college stations.

Arther Conley - Funky Street
Norman Connors - You are My Starship
Brick - Dazz
Joe Simon - Power Of Love
Staple Singers - If You are ready
Tymes - So Much In Love
Baby Washington - Thats How Heartaches Are Made
Al Wilson - The Snake

I better check the back pages some of these might be repeats.

Smokie Pt 2--Bill Black

and the soul train continues.......good work

The Isley's did make a version of Summer Breeze
The Isley Brothers S.O.S........1980
Seals and Croft.........1972....Don't have that vinyl.
Main Ingredient .....Euphrates River ...1974
I'm sure of this cause I'm looking at the albums now.

The Sharon Paige thing don't know to much but the vinyl I have says:
Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes...Featuring Sharon Paige....The Blue Album....1975
The original album jacket had a rated "xxx" label for the nude poster inside...Can't remember of who though.

I think that was the time Teddy and Blue Notes were splitting up.......Then Harold Melvin split from the Blue Notes...I think all this happen between 1975-77...

King Curtis.... Whole Lotta Love ....Oh yea of course...But do you know who made it first?
I should say who wrote/produce the song?...in my niche of friends this is an ongoing debate.

Thanks for the info on Main Ingredient...I just didn't think there would be two R&B cover versions of Summer Breeze.... Not 100% sure of Teddy P . but would almost bet money, since "WakeUp Everybody" charted after., But I could be wrong.

The nude photo...Ohio Players took that Idea to the next level on all their album covers, including that most were fold-outs..double your pleasure, double your fun. ;)

have no idea on "whole Lotta Love" who did It?

"Rock With You" probably my favorite MJ record along with "Billie Jean".

Sad day yesterday...poor Farah lost in the shuffle. Sad state of the media that they couldn't spare a half hour to pay homage to the beautiful Angel.
