Another great version of "Sixteen Tons: (the best as far as I am concerned) came from The Platters. The best sounding version is on The Platters Greatest Hits CD. Excellent stuff.

Not too many folks know about the Platters version of 16 Tons...very good find. Yeah, its on the same compilation I have, it includes , some King, plus Musicor and all the Mercury stuff....its hard to find a compilation with all the labels that an artist recorded on, even when its a subsidiary like Mercury and Musicor. the Musicor recordings were the second generation Platters without Tony Williams(orig lead) and Zola Taylor, and featured a new variety of leads, which included Sonny Turner and former Flamingo Nate Nelson.
