>>I'm not sure Severin would play as well in the morning as he does in the afternoon. Some shows are just made for certain time slots. Severin was given the big bucks to counter-program Howie Carr, not to have his head handed to him by Dennis & Callahan.
You have a good point and as I said, he wouldn't want to get up VERY early from his mansion in
Manchester-by-the-Sea...
Barnicle...won't take calls. Courageous.
>>Carr makes too much money for a station switch, especially to a time slot for which he's probably not well suited, Carr is a natural for PMD.
True, unless WTKK moved Severin to middays and put Howie on PMD. Entercom can be tight with the money
but they also realize he's their franchise player (unless somehow they think the franchise player is
a certain former House speaker...)
>>Switching to a more competitive time slot and a station which would lower his audience and visability wouldn't make any sense for Carr or WTKK. Besides, his 'distress' at the sports preemptions was mostly just part of his curmudgeon act
True
>>How about Miller instead of Egan and Braude? Heck, I'd listen.
As would I
>>Wasn't O'Reilly moved because he couldn't turn a good enough midday number? If so, I don't see where anything's changed.
I didn't know the reason, but I thought they just wanted to beef up local content during the daytime
(hench the tripling of E&B's hours, though Graham lost an hour). Maybe he does belong at night tape
delayed. He's technically up against himself (the TV show airs at 8p of course). Same situation in
some markets like Providence (IIRC) where Glenn Beck, tape delayed on radio, aired at the same
time his CNN Headline News show did.
>>I dunno. Myers has a way of wearing out his welcome. He was disliked enough at WBZ TV that the techs sabotaged his final sportscast. When I knew him, 20 years ago, he played the chippy 'angry Black man' role so incessantly that he had everyone wondering what hell he was talking about. Perhaps he's mellowed, but I don't think he has, or would have, enough appeal to become a major player in the talk wars.
I'm not saying I'd do that, but THEY may...he's on their bench for right now, doing fill ins though I think
he may have gotten a brief weekend slot?
>>I've never understood the attraction of Hannity. Although a lot of folks seem to like him because of his politics, every issue seems to be all about him, and he has an annoying habit of injecting himself into every interview, at the expense of whatever point the interviewee is trying to make. Plus, he gives new meaning to the description 'apostle of the obvious.' But, nothing succeeds like success, and he certainly has that, in two mediums.
You make good points there and he can be a bit much at times, but he can also be entertaining. I do get a kick out of the fact that a liberal blog referred to him as "Slant head"--as in, he tilts his head when talking to someone on his TV show. They're right!
