Mix 102.9 becoming more "pop" friendly?

I noticed just a while ago that they played Usher's "DJ got us falling in love" and they also play Taio Cruz a lot as well as Bruno Mars and Katy Perry. Thoughts or opinions?

More and More HOT AC stations are sounding like Pop stations these days.

The hence phrase here is "Contemporary".

In my office, the stations are rotated each day. There are plenty of times I cant tell the differance between 102.9 & KISS.

MIX is a Hot A/C station and KISS is a Top 40 station. Does this help?

It is obvious that the point the poster was trying to make is that the music on both stations sounded very similar to him. Does this help you understand?

How deep should the "mix means variety" musically go? 80's 90's, 2000's and today?? Alot to choose from. Is the format ever going to get out of it's identity crisis?

I'm wondering about the same thing. It's a very good question, and in fact, I think about it often when I listen to Mix 102.9 and other similar stations. Seriously, how well does "Pride (In The Name Of Love)" work when segued into or out of "Bad Romance?" Even if I personally like both songs (and the artists) I'm wondering if it's a good thing to be that diverse in the format, whether in style, mood or the simple stretching of a station's playlist over several disparate decades.

Why not? If you like both songs, it's very possible that a sizeable number of other listeners in your demographic category do as well. My experience in the real world is that the musical taste of listeners is rarely as narrow as the format lines created in the radio industry -- and so it is entirely plausible to me that a relatively broad musical format can work. And, apparently, it does...I see that KDMX is tied for 9th (with KKDA-FM) in the latest ratings, which is certainly suggestive that they're *not* too broad for their listeners.

It's kind of funny, cause threads like this are popping up in so many markets - I think it's happening where CHRs are becoming so Rhythmic that Hot ACs are moving in to fill in the "mainstream/adult CHR" hole in the market - I don't live in Dallas, but it seems like that's probably what's happening IMO (cause it's happening in NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, and so many other markets where the CHR is really Rhythmic)

It's not happening in New York where there are two CHR/Pop stations, nor in Detroit. In Fact, Detroit now has 2 CHR/Pop outlets, along with Rhythmic outlet 106.7 The Beat. The Hot A/C in Detroit uses the old "Today's Hits Without The Rap", which I think was used at one time on Q-95 (now known as Channel 95.5) wayyy back in the early 90s. Basically, WDVD Detroit is a very vanilla sounding station (musically), which pretty much renders it obsolete as far as CHR/Pop goes.

^The people in the Detroit forum are actully posting that WDVD is starting to sound CHR (as of the last couple weeks I guess) - NYC and Detroit do have two CHRs (so does Dallas now), but in all those cases both CHRs are Rhythmic-leaning (Z100 added September and If It's Love but kept them in extremely low rotation), or Rhythmic-leaning enough to leave room for an adult-leaning CHR (or in this case a CHR-leaning Hot AC)

In any case, people that want to hear Train, Daughtry, Usher, and Rihanna can't really listen to CHR anymore in these markets, so I think the Hot ACs are moving towards CHR to attract those listeners

A "Dance station"....really? It sounds like every other Chr Rhythmic leaning station in the US.

So would you call i93 rhythmic pop? Is i93 more rhythmic than Kiss?
