Mix 103.1 Fort Walton Beach

103.1 Journey FM?? Honestly, if they sold that to ***, it can be WFTW-FM...

WSBZ The Seabreeze's tower is adjacent to Sandestin Resort because there is a 106.3 FM (WKNU in Brewton, AL) less than 70 miles to the NW and another 106.3 FM less than 70 miles to the northeast in Donaldsonville, GA.

You are lucky these days if you can power up to 6KW (Class A) with all of the signals in the Southeast.

103.1 is now silent probably ready to launch foxy 103. RIP mix, you were a great radio station!

Good riddance as far as I'm concerned. Looking forward to the new Foxie 1031. As of now they are back stunting.

We had some nice tropo this morning, heard Tampa, Houston, Miami and South Texas.

Foxy 103.1 will not last here, this isn't an urban area like Pensacola is. People here like rock, pop and country..

Hi Rob --

WSBZ The Seabreeze's tower is adjacent to Sandestin Resort because there is a 106.3 FM (WKNU in Brewton, AL) less than 70 miles to the NW and another 106.3 FM less than 70 miles to the northeast in Donaldsonville, GA. WSBZ only has a small 1/4 mile usable area to locate a tower and antenna that wouldn't shortspace either of those existing stations. Coming in on the dial somewhat late (signed on in 1994) doesn't give much flexibility since the FM band on the Gulf Coast is packed with existing stations, all with existing protected contours. Think about it. We have more than 45 "listenable" FM signals in this market --much more than a larger market like Atlanta. (Isn't a shame most of them sound the same?) And....why move to Ft. Walton Beach? Unless you are sitting under Cumulus' transmitters in the RF heavy Hollywood Blvd area -- you should be able to hear us OK. (Plus ..receiver overload is a sign of a crappy radio) Look at the market. All the "money demos" are really east of Ft. Walton Beach.

If I had money and a 200,000 car, I wouldn't be listening to radio, more like XM,mp3s and other music. I can see how your trying to target the upper middle class demo's there. Also, I'd have a house in Nashville and a vacation home here or PC Beach.

Whenever I visit there, I see cars with antennas and can hear the bass from the music - you are a rare breed, one of the last Jazz stations here in the USA.

CCENG might be able to help me here (as can Chris Romer).... Rob you'd love living here in Nashville. We don't have a beach really, but man do we have like 10,000 strobeys. I am lucky to live on a hill (not many down in Destin/FWB/Navarre with a view of the skyline and everything down below in the flatter areas of the city and you would be in heaven with all of them glowing and flashing and lots of buildings with them and big tall towers some of them so close to each other the almost dance and are bright like the sun but just a few are blue and one or two green or yellow mostly red or kiinda orange and pink red none purple. The WSM AM tower is another direction out back but pretty as well but Crumulus needs to buy some bulbs.
Chris is a star here and knows all the country people that sing and maybe wear hats and while I know a few, I mainly know that I like going to your beaches of 30A where that man runs his Jazz station and Enjoy good sounding stations signals of 234,000 plus wattys from that man Down in Panama City. Thank you for liking Nashville. Why would you pick this place of all other places on the Mapquest??? Don't get me wrong it's a really good place to drive your mule too

Don't be dissing my mule! With gas going to $6.00 a gallon, we ALL will be driving mule's!

-Rob

Good one on the $6 vs. The mule, Rob. And very true. You are always welcome in Nashville. The tropo isn't as good and Castro doesn't jam.

Can we get back to the topic here? What is 103.1 doining right now? I hope they dont do the same long stunting like a few years ago when 98.1 drop sports to country.

quite true...while I was still on-air @ WSIX...literally thousands of stars dropped in to visit drove past the CC studios without even slowing down

Keeping people on this board on topic is like herding hens. ;) Well it's been over a week and 103.1 is still looping the same listen to q92 promo over and over again as of now.

So Mix 103.1 is taking their time with the format flip? Is it possible that they are moving transmitter sites? The did that strange change of COL from DeFuniak Springs to Valparaiso quite a while back and haven't done anything else since. The only reason I could see to change the COL was to move the transmitter west to one of the two tall (ha ha) downtown FWB towers, with reduced power obviously. Could 103.1 even pull off 25kw from one of the towers on Hollywood or would they have to drop down to 6kw?

103.1 is back on Tune In Radio about the same as trock was saying telling people that to turn to 92.1 the new Q92 your new home for hit music

So is it okay if we get back on trock AFTER they do something significant because all I see worth mentioning is that there is nothing worth mentioning. Other than I still wonder if APEX got a $$ on these stations when they bought em. Tough market.

I disagree. I think an Urban ac type station can do very well here. I know a lot of people around Ft Walton and Crestview area who listen to both r&b/hip hop and rock/pop music. When I'm at the local bar they feed the jukebox with mostly urban music.

Trock ---- years ago (not going to say how long ago, because it's painful) when I did the research on buying 98.1 (stayed Classic Rock and #2 behind 99Rock) and then eventually 92.1 <(which I still think to this day, thankfully never happened) I was always convinced that the hole in the market in Destin/FWB was some form of Urban. WBLX was the only game blasting in strong numbers. The reality is that even though that was an OBVIOUS choice, it was not a prudent choice for maximizing PROFITS. The format, while certainly popular, is not a strong choice for getting revenues in. Today, it's even tougher. The revenues come from the female, 25 plus listeners. That's why FLY shifted. BH is right about being sad to see if shift, but I would assume the revenues proved to tell a story of less than stellar billing compared to what they think it could become. Whether that is right is still TBD. Now, If they do put this Foxy thing on 103.1, then they are stacking a younger leaning company and trying a niche sales approach. It might work, but it's a longshot in FWB/Destin. The only reason PFM is still even trying is they make more off the ad rev from two clubs than flipping (me just guessing from past logic)... That won't work at 92.1 or 103.1. I haven't studied the market or formats in a long time, so I may be off on this, but it does have a national application.

Strange, I just posted a question on the Bama board asking what would become of K-Love 95.7 in Navarre after it signs on 97.5. I suggested that Cumulus might be able to purchase 95.7 and Magic 106.1 could move to 95.7 giving FWB their first and only urban outlet. At the same time that would free up 106.1 in Pensacola to flip to News/Talk WCOA FM.
