MIX 106.5 Stunting

You make the possible "Fox Sports Radio 106.5" sound like a bad thing (lol)

No, not bad, aside from maybe inflicting "Petros and Money" and "Loose Cannons" on all of Northeast Ohio (that infection is contained to 1350 in Akron and 1390 in Youngstown now)...just not gonna happen. :)

FSR's "star" host, Petros Papadakis, would only accomplish one thing if he got a Cleveland clearance, and that's making Aaron Goldhammer and Chris Fedor sound excellent in comparison. I don't consider that a good thing.

There's a reason why Fox Sports Radio is "SuperStation KLAC," after all. :p

Loose Cannon does have Cleveland clearance from 4-7 on KNR2.

And in the summer, Petros and Money can be heard on KNR2 from 7-sign-off.

And NOTHING would make Hammer and Ned sound excellent, no matter what you compare it to.

If we could get Dan Patrick and Tony Bruno in Cleveland, I'd be willing to hold my nose with Loose Cannons and Petros & Money.

Re: MIX 106.5 Mix

One of the biggest WOW moments I've ever had listening to radio!

At 1:18/1:19am WMVX played "The Junkman's" theme song, an orchestrated, classical or classical-like music piece. What am I talking about? Let me explain. The very last episode of the 1960s TV series "Lost In Space" was "Junkyard In Space", which was an entire planet used as an intergallactic junkyard for inhabitants of other planets to dump their mostly mechanical junk. It had exceptionally strong magnetic drawing power to pull in metallic junk from space. On the planet was a lone Junkman. First, the Robot was pulled in as he was doing a solo investigative flight in the space pod. The main crew, the Robinson's, flew their main space ship, The Jupiter 2 down to the planet. The key line in the episode comes when the Junkman, appearing outside the Jupiter 2 space ship, tells the crew that "Nothing ever leaves the Junk Planet!" The theme music used occasionally when in the presence of the Junkman (played by Marcel Hilliaire) was the piece played on WMVX. At first I thought it might have been borrowed from a Classical piece as 106.5 has been playing some in their run-up to the new format. However, a little while later, they played the first theme song from "Lost In Space", so now I'm not so sure. I'd like to know the name of the piece and the performers, as a clean version of the piece, sans dialouge from the episode, is on my "want-list".

Extra info only for those interested in the episode: While this episode has the most eye-rolling, worst ending of the entire 3 seasons, overall it is one of the most interesting. "Lost In Space" became a kiddie show. However, this episode is curiously dark, although it doesn't seem to have specifically meant to be so. The dingyness of the set, the fact that much of the episode takes place at night, and the music contribute to this, as does an unnecessary suicide angle that helps ruin the episode at the end. The Junkman is meant to be right in keeping with typical "Lost In Space" kiddie-firendly aliens. Yet, thanks to the music and other elements, he's actually a sad, selfish and a bit creepy of a creature. The music, which was all-new to this episode, is a major contributor to the darkness. A friend believes that as they produced the episode, people involved in different aspects just kind of bought into the creepiness and darkness, and may have done so unconsciously.

This was the playlist during the 6:50AM-7:20AM stopset:

Tom Jones - What's New, Pussycat?
INXS - New Sensation
Honeymoon Suite - New Girl Now
The Shins - New Slang
Bubba Sparxxx - Ms. New Booty (w/ Ying Yang Twins)
Peabo Bryson - A Whole New World (w/ Regina Belle)
Dead Or Alive - Brand New Lover

That's intentional. And awesome.

106.5 Lake FM - "We Play Everything" first song being "Cleveland Rocks". They claim to be playing 50,000 songs in a row commercial free. Will have to see if that really means the same 50 songs played 1,000 times commercial free or not.

Here's looking at "You, clid". Hardy-har har.

"Here's looking at U Thant."
"Here's looking at ubiquitous."
"Here's looking at Ulysses."

- Mike & The Bots, "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank/MST3K"

106.5 The Lake, eh?

More or less a "Jack FM" style format.

Kinda went off the board from what we were all guessing.

We'll see how it goes.

How would you guys describe the new format?

Is it more 90's based, with some tracks from the 80's and 2000-2009...even an old Steve Miller song ("Jet Airliner")????

Music and sweepers. Now, THAT'S dynamic radio!

;D

How would I describe it? Clueless. And typical. Steve Miller? ::) How do people that compleately out of touch manage to stay employed? This isn't rocket surgery - it's just radio. Find a niche and give them what they want. No big mystery there. Seriously, Steve (*Yawn*) Miller??? Absurd.

Did anyone at 6200 Oaktree not get the memo from five years ago that Jack FM was on its' way out?

Good name (The Lake), terrible format. Boo.

I feel proud that my radar was picking up the effort to push "GenX" as a smokescreen. See my Sunday item...

This almost qualifies as a "Mix relaunch", if barely, considering the station's earlier flirtation with the "we play anything" format a ways back while still keeping the "Mix" branding.

And I'm losing sleep due to Clear Channel, and I don't even work there. :D Probably too late for a nap.

;)

The Lake would actually be a good name for a WDOK-ish soft rock station (similar to 101.5 The River in Toledo)

They should have kept stunting. I listened about the first hour or so, sounded too "homogenized". "We Play Anything". They didn't play any R&B, blues, hip-hop, country, classical, polkas, old crooners, or any oldies (before the 70's).

Since we never really had "Jack" in Cleveland, and I only read about it, I got the impression the Jack was broader than the new format, that did include a little more variety genre-wise than what they're playing now, of course minus polkas, classical, old crooners.

Yeah, I do remember "we play anything" from sometime in Mix's past.
