More cuts at Curtis?

There is a Spanish station in the Triad that is owned by Norsan Media who also have stations in some other markets. Not sure how they are doing in the market but understand that La Preciosa was an excellent revenue producer for CC. Curtis has jacked around with the WZKT format and has yet to find something that can survive in the Triad so I am not sure the format makes much difference. They do have a new General Manager but he has, as I am told, little actual hands on radio experience.

 Since when is an AM station a 100,000 watt Blowtorch?? Don't think there is such a thing!!!

Stafferman was referring to the fact that if you went to the WZTK web page as hosted on the curtis Media site it was only showing a format switch press release. It was not referring to WSJS.

Mystery solved. I googled around and found the La Ley 101.1 website www.laleync.com. Thank goodness....now we can all sleep tonight. I believe the station flipped from talk over a year ago in spring, 2012. I remember because I liked the FM talk and had to change my whole listening habit. Is this a normal thing--for people to go to web sites of businesses that are out of business and critique as though they are still in business? That's a new one on me.

Happy Father's Day to all.

You and me both, Gaveitup. After Brad and Britt went away, I discovered that there was nothing--NOTHING--in the Triad that was even remotely worth my time in the morning. I even tried to force myself to sit through an hour of KC & Dingbat one day. Couldn't do it. Now its a year later, and still nothing has come along to fill the void. Also, whatever happened to Alan Handelman? He has not re-emerged anywhere since the end of wztk. I was never a huge, huge fan of his show but it was kind of fun to occasionally listen to the wacky guests he had on. I got the impression that he had a somewhat modest but very loyal following in this area. Is there no money in the budget anywhere for an afternoon show like that on any station anymore?

For what I know he used to be the National Sales Manager "or something like that". I wish him luck in his post.

Allan Handelman comes on WRDU Sunday afternoons and his show's on ustream and several stations Sunday nights.
And no, there's no radio budget nor flexibility nor probably imagination for that kind of daily show either.

Assume that Curtis is looking at the new GM to spend his time directing revenues for there is no need for a programming person due to the fomat and the fact it is mainly syndicated or voice tracked.

gaveitup I googled 101.1 FM Raleigh, the WZTK page was the first that came up. I wasn't searching for anything.....But thank you for clearing that up. A little mind boggling that the website is still up running. Statistics show 90% of people on search engines never go beyond the first 5 websites under the search bar. They should take down that WZTK website with a press release, probably just driving traffic away.

In both the Raleigh and GSO/W-S latest books I don't see La Ley (WYMY) anywhere. That signal should be succeeding in whatever it has on the air just with its sure strength. Amazing.

Lay Ley still has a 3 share 6+ and 25-54, about where it has averaged for years, in R-DU market.

Lay Ley may not be an Arbitron subscriber, I'm not sure, so they wouldn't be published to
the public. But they're at 3.0, pretty decent, and they own the Hispanic audience.

If they were getting a 3 share....why wouldn't they make that public? Ratings on All Acccess shows nothing from WYMY (La Ley). Why would they subscribe with WPTF which shows NOTHING. But then not have La Ley ratings.

I'm not saying I don't believe you...you are probably very well correct. I just find that a bit odd that they don't want WYMY on the Arbitron subscription. With all the busts they have aside from QDR, you would think they would want to be boasting about a 3 share with one of the most powerful signals in the state.

La Ley sells mainly direct. Local Hispanic owned businesses know the power of the station.
The agencies get the ratings, so they know the numbers.

On a classic rock station? Or on 106.1?

No room on either for it daily, apparently.
He comes on 106.1 Sunday afternoons. So that's better than nothing. It's still "WRDU" to my head.

I'm glad you mentioned the call letters "WZTK" - I haven't checked them out in....I can't remember how long. I just googled them, their website

http://www.curtismedia.com/wztk/

Is still the press release, from over a year ago, about how the station is flipping to Spanish. They still don't even have a website for that!!!????

Actually, not only did they drop the WZTK calls on 101.1 after inheriting the WYMY calls when 96.9 flipped to R&B; 101.1 also inherited the La Ley web address (was laley969.com, but after the former WZTK began simulcasting 96.9, they changed it to its current laleync.com). When 96.9 flipped to R&B and 101.1 began flying solo with La Ley, 96.9 got its own new website.

On 106.1, whose current call letters are the WTKK calls that were formerly parked on a talk station in Boston that flipped to some urban format.

somebody told me he was listening on sunday two weeks ago and there was no handelman show in the afternoon that day. instead they were airing some home improvement infomercial crap in that time slot. are we talking about 12-3pm?

I don't think Allan Handelman is on 1061 anymore. The entirety of Sunday's schedule is paid crap now. So is weeknights 6p-9p, technically.

Someone on Facebook asked Allan about his show not being on 106.1 anymore and this was his statement:

There will be new stations for the Triad and Triangle Ronnie. CC had to drop all syndicated shows that were not from Clear Channel sources. In addition, they were instructed to run only paid programming in my time slot Sunday’s at Noon. The PD had no choice other than implement the directive from Clear Channel headquarters.
When new stations come on board in your area I’ll let you know. In the meantime listen online if you can.
