More Nassau cutbacks

There have been 2 major defections from Nassau this week that is all over the place. Even here in Philly. WFNQ GSM Peter Detone and Sales guy Jordan Walton have departed. Word is they gave notice and were asked to depart immediatly and return after hours to collect personals. This is a HUGE hit for Nassau. Detone and Walton were the major thrust behind FNQ sales. Where are they going? Logic says probably WZID for Detone. Long time sales guy Steve Jones retired last month at ZID so Detone would be a likely fit if he wants to give up managment. Walton is said to be headed for WXRV's Manchester office to team up with Steve Friedman and Bll Pheonix.
The other part of this story is WHY they left. It's rumored that the management style of NH GM Rob Fulmer contributed to their decision. Both had solid lists and good income. Each are too professional to say anything more than "career advancement" to industry insiders but others are speculating. It is reported that Fulmer was less than pleased with the news and let it show.
Question is, will there be more defections or departures? Also, who will fill Detone's GSM position. There are several candidates inside and out of Nassau like Ken Hoffman, Dick Lutkz, Brian Naro, Chris Vary, Ron Piro, Shirley Clark, Cathy Cram and Paul Fuller just to name a few. Will they be able to work in an environment where the company is probably selling off within a year and can they handle Fulmer's style? Will Nassau make a change at the top in NH because of this? Can Fulmer survive?
Things just got a whole lot more interesting up in NH.

Pete and Jordon-the best of the best.

After reading this entire thread, that infamous scene from AIRPLANE comes to mind.
"Good Luck, we're all counting on you."

DeTone was the backbone of WFNQ. Silverburg just hit the jackpot with this move.

My information is that Pete and Jordan are both going to The River. Time to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic?

hearde that the senior execcutive VP, dudee at Nassauu steppped in And talked to some Of the employyees in new hampsire, and sayss Fulmer wil be outsoon"",.....> bnetter make it soon, befoire alll leav, :?

After being in and a part of this industry for over 30 years I've obviously seen huge changes. This thread isn't one of them. Almost everytime, those "indispensible" employees who leave - aren't. Quite frankly it turns out to be the complete opposite more often than not. Bud Sawyer didn't kill WPOR. Mark Persky wasn't the end of WBLM. And if you have ever been in management, you quickly learn that all sales people "quit" about three to six months before they actually give notice. This isn't even a fender bender.

Listen, with things they way they are in the economy, and how they have been in radio since the beginning of time...can you blame people for looking out foir themselves (and their families)

Yeah this is the normal GSM, Sales people departure. Nothing more. Nassau will be fine. That couldn't be farther from the truth. Watching and listening from a distance over the years with this group, this is a disaster. Will Nassau survive? Yes. Records will still spin and sales will still be made. If what you say is true about sales people actually leaving 3-6 months before they do, then most of them are out the door! They all HATE working there. THAT might be their biggest problem! A total culture change needs to happen there and it needs to start with top managment. Sorry Mr. Fulmer.
As for Mr. Detone, it says something when you leave and the people who work for you FOLLOW you.
Word of other departures are confirmed but only one. The other gave notice but was either forced to stay because of a non-compete or they made them a counter offer.

My information is that the other one is being held to a non-compete. IMO it's stupid to enforce those, why would you want someone who'd really prefer to be somewhere else?

I never even signed mine and they never bugged me about it, I think they didn't even check the paperwok.

Non-competes are Legal in NH although it's a "Right to work" State. I don't think they have a lot of success when challenged. However, you have to be willing to work outside the non-compete area, sit out altogether or get another job outside of your chosen profession while you fight it. Most people are brow-beaten into submission after they give notice. It's the path of least resistance most times. Question is, how successful will an employee be after being forced to work for a company they don't want to work for and being refused an opportunity to grow in their career... Let them go for cying out loud!

used to be pretty decent sub/pia shop in that complex. is that gone?

Yup, that I believe is another Doctors Office. The place was called Big Cheese. Very nice staff who got to know your name (especially the regulars) food was so-so.
