More Nassau cutbacks

Time to revive this thread:
Nassau has 2 Major moves over the last couple of weeks.

Andy Mack (one of the longest serving managers and most recognizable personalities) has left the building! Forced out or another opportunity?

Rob Fulmer is moving to Boston to work on the national sales team for Nassau. Probably a better fit for him than the local level.

Question is will they be replaced?

I agree with the Fulmer thing.

Andy is a great guy and was working in his Family's business before getting into radio. He is a decent person, Good Luck Andy.

Moving on to bigger, better things. Andy is a great guy and a wonderful teacher.

Doesn't/didn't he own or operate a commercial orchard in Londonderry(?)?

In Maine, the Nassau rock station The Bone just gave away 10,000 to a local, unsigned rock band. For an organization who is supposedly cash-strapped and facing cutbacks, I thought that was seemed a little out of whack.

You don't really think that the 10 grand came directly from Nassau, did you?

Often times these are clients that strike a deal with promotional mentions in exchange for the providing of a major prize.

I can think of a lot of stations that could do a lot with a spare $10 grand in the budget... that's two or three part-timers right there. I don't see Nassau or any group adding two or three part timers anywhere in NNE.

I have no idea where it came from, but I can see how people may look at it. Even a quarter of that amount is huge bucks to a local band. Giving 10K to someone outside of the station when you're supposedly tight on funds may not go over well with some. I love the idea of supporting local music, but just wonder if some feathers got ruffled.

A Nassau employee tells me Mr. Fulmer will keep his office and responsibilities in Gilford as he takes on his new assignment in Boston.
Now THAT is multitasking.

They produced and sold a CD that apparently paid for the Grand Prize...so in essence the listeners paid for it

Hometown favorites rock their way to $10,000 in spotlight on Maine music

PORTLAND — The crowd thronged forward as Dead Season lead singer Ian Truman gave a shout-out and high-fives to the fans who showed up en masse to support the Oxford-based band as it rocked its way to $10,000 in the first-ever 106.7 Bone Bash at The Gold Room in Portland.

Saturday's event featured three Maine bands chosen by more than 2,000 listener votes. It was the culmination of the radio station's three-month-long Rock ME Project that produced a CD featuring 15 original tracks from 11 Maine bands. The two other top bands who performed for the judges Saturday were L-A-based Civil Disturbance and Portland-based Fifth Freedom.

The prize money was sponsored by the radio station's parent company, Nassau Broadcasting, based in Princeton, N.J., and Mainely Wireless was one of the major sponsors of the CD released this fall as part of the project. "

That's a lot of CD's and $5-a-head paid guests at the Gold Room!

That is nuts but maybe it'll keep him out of their hair a bit.

This thread has taken many twists and turns but let's focus back on Nassau for a moment. Why have they (shapiro) not filed with the FCC? Why has the FCC not approved the transfer to Goldman? What is happening with 102.3 in Concord? Are there any other stations they are going to part with? What happened to the Portland signal they had to divest? There may be trouble in Paradise with Mr. Shapiro. I have heard he was anxious to close or at the very least LMA. Why have things cooled? What's possibly going on? Is the deal still as deal?
If you are so inclined, look up the extension or consummation app filed by Birch Broadcasting recently with the FCC. (You can find it on the CDBS) I only glanced at it briefly but there is a hold up with 102.3. Not sure if the issue is with Vox, Nassau or Shapiro.

How many lawyers does it take to sew up a deal here?

Gotta be frustrating all around

Just heard from a solid source that Vox challenged the transfer to Birch. I also heard that Nassau won in court and can indeed transfer to Birch. Which will then presumably go to Mr. Shapiro. Wasn't he part of Vox? Was he part of the challenge? Seems odd that he would challenge but it might have been his partners in Vox pulling the strings. I don't get it still... Vox got paid already. Why not just walk away... unless they were trying to get it back and sell it again! So many twists. Looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel...maybe!

$hapiro is no longer part of Vox. The partners split a couple of years back. Vox is now just Barlow and a name that escapes me at the moment. $hapiro teamed with the other partner whose name I can't quite remember either.
