Most and Least Favorite Chicago DJ'S

I guess this dates me, but my fav Jock was Larry Lujack. My least fav was Dick Biondi. This is probably a sacrilidge but I just didn't enjoy listening to Biondi.

My favorite of all time is Terry Foxx formerly of B 96. He sounded like someone you knew as a good friend even though you did not. Very personable to his audience and I think he was consistently top 3 during the afternoons the entire time he was here. Every day sounded like he was just having fun entertaining his audience no matter what type of day they were going through. It was kinda a sad day when he left. I think I actually taped it. Many jocks and even Ch. 2 employees came by to say goodbye. It just showed what kind of person he was and that he was going to be missed.

The worst has got to be midday talent at WGCI currently Bionce Foxx. She sounds like she was not paying attention during Radio 101 class. She talks over the songs constantly to where you miss the start of the lyrics. So many times she does not just let her listeners enjoy the song going "whoooo" and "that is my song" etc. that I can only tolerate her for about 15 minutes before I change the station. She may be very well a nice person but she drives me nuts sometimes listening to her on the radio.

I'm with you. The only time I enjoyed listening to Biondi was a few times he filled in mornings with Catherine Johns on 104.3. He is a great story teller and has all kinds of R&R trivia that came across good with Johns. Otherwise, I don't listen to him.

Many of today's up and coming jocks could learn a few things from Lujack--just by listening to the Animal Stories CDs.

Robert Murphy was also a favorite of mine--especially when he was teamed with Danger Dan and Dave McBride on Q101.

My Favorites are in this order:...Doug Banks (even though musically he is a shadow of his former self)... Rick Party (formerly of WGCI), Fiona Verde'(formerly of Soul 1063).....

Middle ground is Troi Tyler...She connects better with a 50+ crowd...

I give the least to Devante Stone..

When WZZN began bringing in some DJs to replace Scott Shannon's 24 hour voicetracks Dick Biondi was the most requested jock to be added to the station.
The man has seen rock & roll from it's beginning until today. He is in the radio hall of fame and rock & roll hall of fame so apparently more than a few people do like him.

Through the years, there have been many great jocks in Chicago so let's not forget guys like Clark Weber, Art Roberts, Joel Sabastian, Stan Dale, Daddy O'Daylie, Lucky Cordell, Herb Kent and, my favorite, "Big" Bill Hill. "Big" Bill Hill brokered on WOPA from the storefront of his dry cleaners on West Madison.

1960's: Old Uncle Lar
1970's: Yvonne Daniels
1980's: Jonathon Brandmeier, Steve & Garry
1990's: Roe & Garry, Mancow
2000's: Eric & Kathy (I know, but they do a great show!)

Listen cat, I know of his many accomplishments. I was in radio, on the air for 34 years. I will never be in a hall of fame or have my name mentioned in the same roll call of giants who have graced the Chicago airwaves. Dick Biondi is a giant and a legend. No one will ever take that away from him. You posed the question and I answered honestly. He just wasn't my cup of tea. While Larry Lujack was my favorite jock ever, it was Art Roberts who inspired me to become a radio personality when I was only 12 years old. Art was on the Big 89 and my family was traveling to Little Rock to visit some friends. I can remember telling my parents then I wanted be in radio. A few years before Art passed away we became friends albeit via the e-mail. He was teaching at a university somewhere in Nevada. He was caring for his mother who was in her 90's. He was as nice off the air as on. Which is more than I can say for some people on these blogs.

Have a Great Chicago Day,
Bob O'Shea

Most-
George McFly (80s/90s B96) WHAT AN AMAZING JOCK!!!
Matt Wright/Freddy Kendricks/Craig Carson (WUBT/WZZN) Another effortless jock. Makes it look easy. Plus he is the nicest guy ever.
Roe & Gary (WLS) Miss hearing these two together. I really really do.
Dick Biondi-Legend. He set the blueprint for every CHR night jock you hear today.
Java Joel (WKSC) He was a breathe of fresh air into what had been stale night jocks. Insanely talented.
Johnny B.- Id take his midday show from WCKG as my favorite incarnation.

Least-
Styles & Roman (B96) They have no place on the air in Chicago. The 'ghetto from Naperville' schtick makes me ill. Take away their connections with the CBS brass and they have nothing.
Larry Lujack-Ya know, I never 'got it'. Not taking anything away from the guy. Just not my thing.
Kevin Mathews-Another guy who I never got. He seemed like a 3rd rate Brandmeier.

How about some love for:

Bob Stroud
John "Records" Landecker
Joel Sebastian
Dick and Doug

Big time hate for:

Check Nasty
Don Geronimo
Slim Nelson

I am so glad George McFly, Java Joel was mentioned. You are right about those two. Especially Java Joel. His time here was way too short.

I thinK Craig Carson works for Kiss in Milwaukee now. You can listen to him online. The call letter are WXSS-FM.

To be honest....there are so many famous names from Chicago radio that it is impossible to mention them all....however I shall try....I loved Yevonne Daniels, Jeff Davis, Kris Eric Stevens, Gary Gears, John Landecker, Tommy Edwards, the "world famous Tom Murphy", Steve King, Charlie Van Dyke, Lyle Dean, Geoffry Hendricks, Don Hoover, Art Roberts and yeah I even loved Dick Biondi even though he was my least fav to listen to. I'm sure there are others who merit mentioning, I just can't think of their names right now. Robert W. Morgan's short stint in Chicago was still terrific. Fact is, the greats as I see them are gone with the era I am admittedly stuck in. I loved the golden age of top 40. We will never have that again.
