MOVIN 97.5 goin' Christmas?

What a desperate attempt to grab KEZ listeners.

That aint gonna happen...especially with their spotty rimshot coverage. Somethin' new is coming, or Trumper has found a buyer. At the right price, the Nurse and I think it makes sense for TMISU to keep someone else from doing sports on FM.

You think TMISU will simulcast Sports 620 on 97.5? Does B'ville have a LMA deal with Trumper? What if B'ville later acquires a South Mountain stick?

Sports on FM is coming and B'ville wants to do it first! :)

Gumpdusky beat them to it a few years ago, at least for the 4 or 5 folks in the valley that have HD radios. KUPD-HD2 has been simulcasting KDUS for quite some time now.

And would TMISU bother with a signal that has trouble reaching the southeast valley?

Yes indeedy. While 97~Five has coverage issues, its signal is solid elsewhere...and that's a lot of real estate. As long as TMISU keep it in simulcast during critical times with Sports Parking Lot 6~Twenty (whose signal is solid day and night), there's not much to lose. If the signal breaks up on FM, then simply listen to Ancient Modulation. Problem solved. With 97~Five under their control, TMISU make another FM operator think long and hard about switching to sports.

Pure speculation on my part, but...

Trumper has indeed found a buyer, and that buyer's CBS contract runs out just about the time holiday music season ends.

Come January, KPRT debuts...finally a station dedicated 24/7 to Dave Pratt. Musically, it will be diverse, with country music, 80's hair metal, along with a sprinkling of Tony Orlando and KC & the Sunshine Band.

6-10 will of course be hosted by Dave. Other dayparts will be filled by other members of Dave's inner circle (Mark Curtis? Danny Zelisko? That guy from the magazine?) and of course one of his kids will definitely have a show. I also believe we've found a new home for Nights With Alice Cooper.

There won't be a lot of marketing at first, but don't be surprised if the first thing Dave announces on air is a BBQ at his place.

Will all on-air people be required to use their real names? ;D

Listening to 1060 recently, I'm pretty sure that they have been legal ID'ing as simply "KUPD-HD2", with no mention of KDUS.

Are they allowed to do this? Not that they are too concerned about legal IDs, of course (see Lamptimer thread)...just curious.

I remember them having a separate ID for 1060 and the HD2. One airs at the top of the hour and the other after the SNR update. The upcoming KDUS "HD2 swap" from 97.9-2 to 93.3-2 will make things more confusing.

Another site is reporting that 97.5 has registered the domain name Hot975Phoenix.com

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

My God, I didn't think there was any open room in the CHR format in Phx besides what they were doing before with Adult CHR. Or maybe it WILL be a dance-influenced CHR!!!!!!!???????????????????????

"Hot" sound more hip-hop to me... maybe another hip-hop station? No way 97.5 is going to beat out 101.5 JAMZ or to a lesser extent, Power 98.3!

That's all we need...another hip-hop station. ???

Forget sports on 97.5. If B'ville puts sports on FM, it will be on a signal that blankets the entire valley.

How many CHR stations does the valley really need? If hip-hop Hot 97.5 becomes reality, where will it draw its audience from, especially with a rimshot stick? :)

None available, unless a group operator of three or less So Mtn sticks sells to TMISU. 97~Five covers at least 85% of the Valley....good enough for a full simulcast with Sports Parking Lot 6~Twenty. Has to be a purchase price that makes sense for a rimshot signal or a LMA. As a stand alone station, the current owner doesn't have many options.

We don't have any hip hop station in Az. except for The Beat. We need a hip hop station so everyone can hear Wocka Flocka Flame, Stuey Rock, Roscoe Dash, and other dirty south flavours along with some Dr Dre and maybe even some new Atlanta Booty Bass!

As a matter of fact, they could start with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLqZkNtFjSQ
You know what I'm talkin' 'bout Shawty?

Oh, anyone remember that old Hot 105.9 station we had before KAJM came along and perfected the sound of old school r&b formatting?

Well personally I don't think anyone "needs" to hear Wocka Flocka Flame. ::)

With regards to whether the Phoenix market "needs" a pure hip-hop station, I'd say the demand is only a little higher than the demand for a pure dance station...and by that I mean, not so much.

Energy is long dead. Movin' tried to do a vanilla version of a rhythmic format and it failed. KZZP is not embracing hip hop, to say the least. Jamz has taken off since they dropped "Blazin' the Valley's Hip Hop" as part of their positioning, and Power? Do they still claim to be the place where "Hip Hop Lives"?

My money is still on Pratt 97.5.

;D

Well, whatever they become, lets just hope they stay original with it and provide a unique sound and that they don't try to be slick & slight!

I hate to be a buzz kill, but I wouldn't hold my breath for something original and/or unique. Original and unique are risky and expensive propositions for any business, and all the more so for radio. The current owners of 97.5 don't exactly have a reputation for pouring a lot of money into originality.

The only chance of originality happening is if that signal is sold to people with deep pockets and about five years worth of patience with regards to losing money hand over fist.
