Movin' 97.5

Mr. Adkins' post was "sufficiently" condescending.

Listeners like him are a dime a dozen. They fail to support a station and its advertisers, then send scathing letters full of misnomers that clearly constitute a complete misunderstanding of commercial radio.

My favorite part of the letter is at the end where he suggests to GM that when Star does return, to find a frequency "sufficiently isolated from other stations or sufficiently robust so as to overpower them". HA! ::)

I'm quite surprised that he didn't use the usual "I'm writing a letter of disaproval to the FCC. You're not broadcasting in the public interest." threat in his letter. He should go have a good cry about the loss of Star over a drink at The Westward Ho or maybe dust off his Dave Brubeck vinyl and put it on the "hi-fi".

The small amount of loyal listeners Star had probably supported their advertisers, but they were probably already the group that goes out and attends off-Broadway theater, ballet, Phoenix Symphony, etc. even if they didn't advertise on the station. Like I said before, if the affluence and "buying power" of a small group of listeners allowed stations to bill more than they could with a more mainstream 18-34 or 25-49 format, there would be many Classical, Traditional Jazz, and Star-type formats on analog commercial FM radio across the country.

Just returned home to San Diego from Phoenix and was picking up "Movin 97.5" fairly well all the way to Winterhaven, CA. Most Phx FM stations start to fade between Dateland and Wellton (103.9 holds out the longest). With a decent car radio, you can hear "Movin" at a good level driving around the Yuma area. I had to look up "Dewey-Humboldt" in my atlas when I returned home and was surprised to find out that the tower is in Yavapai county! Shows what a 7,280 foot tower with 42,000 Watts can do I guess. I wonder how good their signal is to the North, South and East?

Wow!

I've picked up KNAU in California (on the I-40 downgrade into Needles), Utah (Bryce Canyon overlooks) and Colorado (road to Mesa Verde).

There's a section of California 74 southwest of Cathedral City where the South Mountain C-3 sticks come in. I've also listened to KDKB and while camping above Idylwild, above Palm Springs.

Back in the old days, KPHO-TV had viewers in Barstow.

It must be due to the altitude, but I picked up 97.5 as clear as a local right along the Mogollon Rim near Forest Lakes. The altitude along that portion of the rim is about 7700 feet, so it's probably a line of sight thing.

And surprisingly, 97.5 and 98.3, which transmit from about the same location, come in clearly along the road to Maricopa, the one in Pinal County. Having South Mountain in the way doesn't seem to affect the signal.

Zumahans....interesting that you mentioned KNAU. While scanning the FM dial on my drive back to SD, KAFF 92.9 briefly faded up over KWMT right around Dateland. Also noted while in Yuma were KHWY 98.9 Essex, CA and KLUK 97.9, Needles.

On the other hand, if you live or work behind the Phoenix Mountains and Camelback Mountain, the Towers Mountain signals get killed by multipath interference. However, 95.1, 97.5, and 98.3 come in with good reception (at least in a car radio) in the far east Valley (Queen Creek/Gilbert), and I did pick up 95.1 faintly at the I-40/US-93 junction east of Kingman last year.

Nurse Jeff and I've always thought country would work best with that signal. The multi-path problem is in areas where country listening is not that strong. And the signal to the north (Prescott, Flag, Payson, and the Rim Country) is gang busters. Star 97~five has gone from Sass, Brass & Class to a bunch of Movin' azzes in their latest tv commercial! ::)

I grew up at 60th/Thomas and the S Mtn sticks would get killed by the "Camelturd Buttes" on the Air Guard base at 52nd and Oak.

KTVK was the worst. When we wanted to watch Monday Night Football without Howard Cosell looking like a ghost (insert joke here) we'd take a 2x4 and rotate the antenna towards KGUN from Tucson - much better signal, and channels 8 and 10 were nonexistant.

Our "autoprogram TVs" would always find KVOA, KGUN and KOLD. Usually not channel 6, though. Never 11. No UHF in the Naked Pueblo back then.

Nope. To me, Krazy Kid doesn't seem to make sense for Movin. Bruce Kelly might, since most of the music they play was current when he was in is heyday.

David you make good sence about Bruce being relatable to the music Im from the KUKQ Urban days I know what you mean about song relatability, DAMN I just realized Damn I am Old School! Im glad Im also still current. Bruce makes sence!

Does 975 even put a 60dbu over any part of the metro?

The format is great for this area due to its heritage, but the music doesn't seem quite right, and the signal is the reason why it will not get the ratings it should get.

What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports is a 60dbu?

The signal hits enough of metro Phoenix to do more than a 0.9 12+. Look what Latino Vibe (95.1) is doing from the same site. Not everyone can be on South Mountain.

Looks like Movin' has changed calls to KMVA - that's good for at least a one share

The -60dbu does not fill the metro area south of about Bell Rd. The signal is certainly there it’s the audio processing that needs to be modified to the new format. Sounds like they left the Star settings in the processor. In regards to the bass it sounds like it’s gasping. I’d be curious to know what their using, most likely Optimod or Omnia.
