Yes, he has a history in Boston before New York, including two innovative evening shows on WBZ. In the mid-60's it was "Subway", playing the softer side of the new progressive album rock, folk-rock and jazz of the times before anyone else on Boston commercial radio, then it became "The Lovin' Touch", a romantic evening show which was a predecessor of the format that came to be known as "Soft Rock" during the next decade. He was also briefly P.D. of Boston Top 40 legend WMEX in the late 60's.
