As I drove to work last night from 11 to 11:30, I tuned in to 87.9 to see what I could hear. In my driveway in Plano (75&Spring Creek) I could only barely get a little recognition that some kind of signal was trying to come through. The audio was way down in the hash.
I could get a fluttery signal when I got on to 75 which made sense since that's up higher than my neighborhood.
I got my first real good blast of signal about 11:14 when I got to about Belt Line. It breifly lit the stereo indicator. It was a loud signal.
It was up and down for a while as I got farther in to Dallas, but became more listenable around LBJ.
As I was rolling past Northpark, I looked in my rearview mirror and saw a car come ripping around an 18 wheeler behind me. As soon as I saw the car, the music on 87.9 changed to some kind of southern rock music. Obviously, this car had some kind of IPOD transmitter in it. As he ripped past me going about 80-95 miles an hour, it was blaring in full stereo. He got about half a mile up the road and the music disappeared when he crossed over 3 lanes to exit the highway. It briefly came back as I passed the Knox-Henderson exit and could see the light was red at the intersection.
After that, I got a crystal clear reception of the pirate when I got on to Woodall Rodgers. The stereo indicator fluttered a bit when I got to the bottom of the ramp at Field street to turn into downtown, but it was still plenty strong.
Suffice to say, this pirate is pretty potent. However, I was pretty impressed by the signal put out by the IPOD thing. I sometimes wonder if some of the "pirates" I think I hear from time to time are those dang IPOD things.
