Need signal reports for 87.9 pls

I just tried with my Eton shortwave radio. It's pretty precise, since you can tune in 1khz increments (87.81 , 87.82, 87.85 etc). However I'm not getting anything right now. I have lots of problems in this area with radio reception though (Las Colinas south of 114). I'll bring my radio to the office tomorrow and see if I get anything. I love pirate radio and things like that.

I'm not sure, but I think the station was on the air this morning with a silent carrier.
I listened to 87.9 from Downtown Dallas back to my home in Plano this morning from about 9:20 - 9:50.

I would occasionally get a stereo signal on a silent carrier. HOWEVER, I also picked up about 10-15 different Ipods or satellite radios that use an FM transmitter for the car.

I heard one R&B song, a Foreigner song, some other hard rock song, someone listening to the audio of Fox News Channel, 4 different cars listening to The Howard Stern Show on Sirius, one other talk show of some sort, and one book on tape or podcast of some kind. There were several others that were too brief to be identified.

It's a fun game to see what you can hear from other cars when you're driving on the opposite side of traffic at the end of rush hour.

the dead carriers you're hearing are PROBABLY other modulators. The way most of those things work, is they modulate on their frequency whether they have audio input or not. Chances are, you were passing or driving along with cars that had modulators, just didn't have them on (they were probably on the phone, shaving, eating, or putting on makeup) and that's why it was stereo w/ dead carrier.

And gagorder, yeah, I actually have a dog in real life now... I didn't even think about naming him capacitor. Maybe it's not too late to change his name

I went to Arlington after work and driving on 360 towards 183, the signal was pretty strong. No live voices, just lots of religious music in Spanish. I tried calling twice, at 7:30 and at 8:00, but no one picked up.

Has anyone contacted the FCC yet?

That makes sense. I think I actually heard one guy changing the channel on his satellite radio.
This may now become a new hobby to keep me awake on the way home in the mornings.

1 kHz steps would be 87.001, 87.002, etc...your receiver is doing 10 kHz steps.

Yup, they called me back wanting to know what time these guys signed on. I informed them we were also attempting to find the studios. He couldn't condone it but I gathered he was amused by the idea of calling them.

And gagorder, trust me, for those on here who've seen my truck, they can agree "Capacitor" doesn't need his own antennas

May just be shooting in the dark but Roberto Gomez, pastor of Jesucristo Is Me Refugio church on Macarthur in south Dallas has applied for Channel 6 TV. The app is still sitting at the Commission. But the audio for that channel is 87.75.

True, but this isn't a tv station in S Dallas. It's a radio station in S Ft Worth. However, Waco DOES have a channel 6, so those people hearing things other than this station might be hearing NBC audio (chan 6 is NBC in waco).

Yes, but this audio is coming in on 87.9. I got KCEN on 87.7 last night while hearing the pirate on 87.9.

If Gomez is behind this pirate, he can say goodbye to any chance of winning the channel 6 license he wants.

I usually get the channel 6 audio from Wichita Falls up in Plano. I don't think a channel 6 could be short spaced in here which would provide coverage to the whole metroplex, while at the same time not cause interference to Waco and / or Wichita Falls. Also - the FCC wants to vacate the entire low VHF band so they can auction the spectrum.

Based on the type of music that they play and how they play it (it seems they always play four or five songs from the same record in succesion) I don't think it would be audio from a TV station.

The app is for a LPTV...NOT a full service; spacing is much shorter in this case--a properly done Class A TV could cover a good chunk of DFW....just not as good as the high powers at Cedar Hill....and there are DTV allocations in the low band channels....so even after 2/17/09, there WILL be some lowband DTV, just few and far between ...why is another issue

I picked it up last week in west Fort Worth. Sounds a little mistuned on 87.9. Checked it with a variable tune radio at home and it looks closer to 87.85 which indicates they use a manually tuned transmitter rather that a digital or crystal controlled frequency.
