New call letters on 97.5

Old guys and ladies will love this. Since the city of license is Burlington, and they identify the station as Burlington-Philadelphia, let's just call it WKBS.

You do know that 97.5 = FM channel 248, right? :D
 
Actually, I think it's locally pronounced "Nooristown". Like wooder, owyil and cawfee.

Thanks to Speech Professor Pressley at Temple U., I got it reduced to "Nawristown".
 
The WNAU call is held by a small staton In New Albany, MS on 1470. Might be an idea. But, as Kevin also suggests, WKBS ma be an idea, as ch.48 and 97.5 are both licensed to Burlington. I'd get rid of the VT'ed backsells and perhaps do an MOR-type of presentation to further distinguish it from the B.

Aren't local pronunciations something? In the Lehigh Valley, The Locals say " Bethlem'. In Scranton, the locals ussually say "Scra-in" ;D
 
Nick makes a fascinating point and study in demos. Those they're targeting are too young to remember, and the calls mean nothing.

I doubt Greater Media will pick anything with "B" in it for 97.5.

Interestingly, I think the demo they're targeting might actually remember WKBS (I do and I'm 34). The actual problem (IMO) is that I doubt anyone would care!

They may well remember channel 48, but how many people would remember this many years later the call letters? You know, average folk, not like us. (And how many fewer would remember/care that it was licensed to Burlingont?)

I do think it's funny that all of us nerds think average people remember stuff like that. I would venture to say no average viewer ever turned to his wife and said, "Honey. Do you think it's weird that WKBS's ID slide has the word 'Burlington' on it?" All anyone cared about then was that a good "All in the Family" rerun was on and the picture was clear enough to enjoy it!

Even though it almost never means anything to the listeners, getting certain calls that have some sort of meaning is fun and interesting to nerds like us. And let's face it: The people who run these radio stations are complete nerds!

Yeah, when I go to other cities and identify the jingle packages as being the one used by station X at home (well, that was more common in the past when everyone used them), it's a sure nerd warning sign. So hey, if WKBS made for a good in-joke for nerds, all the better. The listeners will care about the station, not whether it's called WKBS, WNOW or whatever it ends up being.

Sorry, I'll take a grande Red Eye from Starbucks, TYVM. And please, leave room for cream and 3 Splendas in my personal "Nissan Stainless Steel" 16 oz travel mug (earning me 10 cents off). Remember, a Red Eye is a bold blend roast with ONE shot of Espresso. TWO SHOTS makes it a black eye, altho, if they know you as a regular, they sometimes dump in the second shot free of charge, since most machines do two shots at once, then they waste the second shot - it depends on how that Barista feels that day).
 
Has anyone noticed that WNUW was mentioned on the Greater Media site. Plus the calls are not being used at the current point.
