New Daytime Soap Opera at CBS In Development

Why not cut Deal in half and have it follow Price and get rid of the flex schedule...

11 - Price
12 - Deal
12:30 - Local News
1 - Y&R
1:30 - The Gates
2 - B&B
3 - The Talk
B&B is not going to expand to one hour, Brad Bell has already been approached about doing that and has declined. Y&R has done so well at 12:30 ET I’d be shocked if CBS changed its timeslot. I think big question is will The Gates air at 1:30 PM ET with Y&R as its lead in? That makes most sense to me. That leaves the 2 PM timeslot for B&B, The Talk and/or something else.

Deadline is speculating on the ominous future of The Talk amid a wave of layoffs including the EP and the show has not been renewed yet:

In other news, The Gates has been confirmed to as an hour long show and the CBS president discusses it with some depth here in Vulture:

Not sure if if say confirmed as in the interview it was stated not sure yet
“It’s been being developed as an hour, but I can’t say for sure. I don’t know yet.”

Who's to say it airs on CBS? Maybe it finds a home on Paramount Plus or (Paramount-owned) BET? Or both? (Although it wouldn't surprise me if it airs a few times on CBS at launch.)

No and No
My mom watched the show (and B&B when it debuted) right through to when she died. In the later days, they’d be on while we visited as it was a familiar-to-her presence as other things faded in her memory. I think the 80s was the last time I saw the shows enough to quickly grasp the plots. And they’re the same stories with the same people on the same sets. So unless they suddenly revamped everything in two years, they’re still pretending it’s 1983.

I have believed for several years that all you have to know about Y&R is whether Victor or Jack is running Jabot this week, and all you have to know about B&B is which Forrester male Brooke is with this week. I swore off both those shows years ago.

It is very curious that CBS only took a 1 year extension on B&B. Y&R's has been a rating juggernaut for decades and CBS clearly has faith in it. Hopefully "The Gates" will be a success. It's good to see a new soap being developed.
Here's the explanation for B&B's one year renewal.

Here's the explanation for B&B's one year renewal.

If both The Talk and B&B are cancelled, CBS might sell the half hour back to their stations much like ABC did back in 2003 after cancelling the GH spinoff Port Charles

Excerpt from link posted above: “So it’s not really my place to comment on it other than to say that we’re on a three-year deal and so the third year was picked up.”

Which means Y&R’s 4 year deal doesn’t necessarily guarantee it will be on for 4 more years, as there could be options every year to pick up another year.

I wish they would do that, cancel the Talk but keep B&B and make The Gates 30 minutes.

Noon local
1pm Young and the Restless
2pm B&B
2:30 The Gates

CBS would keep the Noon ET/11am feed for CT stations and they could air Y&R at noon local if they wanted. LMAD and TPIR would be unchanged.

That would allow for KIRO, KOTV and WDJT to actually clear B&B in pattern because they bump B&B to either after The Talk or to late night (KOTV) to air hourlong news at noon.

No this is not an early April Fools joke at all:

And the point of it is....??

Has it not occured to CBS that Soap Operas on OTA TV is DEAD??

PlutoTV and/or Paramount+ would be A BETTER place for it (To say NOTHING of the fact Generations didn't even last TWO years)
