New Fall Out Boy

I love how SoulCrusher completely ignores my posts now becase I've proven him wrong a couple of times.

Oh well. I'm glad to see so many views to what Alternative music is... but I also fear that this separation isn't helping the format at all.

OK... kind of random... but go with me here.

SoulCrusher... we know your view on My Chemical Romance on Alternative Radio. What about your views on Jet Hellogoodbye, The Deftones, Nirvana, Jack Johnson, The B-52's, and Sinead O'Connor on Alternative radio?

(Again... just go with me here)

Not ignoring - I just haven't spent much time online in the past few days. With regards to the bands you listed...

Jet: No. They're basically a tribute band that plays original songs - most of their stuff blatantly rips off either AC/DC or The Beatles. And they do it with nary a trace of irony, either.

Hellogoodbye: Going on the one song I've heard from them, probably not. If my audience liked electronic music, perhaps I would give it a try.

Deftones: Sure. The Cure and My Bloody Valentine are among their biggest influences. I would play them a good amount, including their earlier material.

Nirvana: I would play some of their songs, but would avoid the tracks that have become forklift driver/frat boy fodder (Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, etc.). These tracks are still played too often by Alternative stations these days.

Jack Johnson: I have even heard stations that generally lean heavier (WJSE - 102.7 The Ace) play some of his songs. It's summertime music, reminiscent of Sublime's mellow side. I'd test it at the very least to gauge for a response.

B-52's: If I was running an Indie or End type Alternative, I would probably play them (pretty much anything but "Love Shack" or "Roam" - the Hot ACs can have them).

Sinead O'Connor: Same response as for B-52's, excluding "Nothing Compares 2 U".

Well all of those artists were played regularly last week on Indie 103.1 in LA. Stuff that "forklift drivers" would listen to. Stuff that "pre-pubescebt teenage girls" would listen to. It's amazing they can all co-exist peacefully.

FOB and MCR have a place, and it's true that they both started out on the Alternative format. However, I'm questioning whether FOB belongs there today - have you guys heard "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race" yet? No joke, the first time I heard it I thought it was the new Justin Timberlake single and I thought "What the heck is an Alternative station doing playing this?

I had the same thought when I first heard it.

I'm glad Lazlo is keeping that shit off the End in Seattle.

He may have a junk afternoon show - but at least the music sounds good.
