New KDOX Lineup

If Beasley really wants to get the talk format to work, they need to move it to one of their FMs. If they want to continue with it the way it is now, they might as well get 790 back and put it there.

The only way to make any real money on 720 is to time-broker the whole thing; not just talk shows, but preachers would pay a premium for that signal, too.

Funny howso many seem to insist that KDWN's only chance for survival is to go back to the schlocky station it was from the 90's to the Beasley takeover.

"News! Oh nobody cares about dog crap on the freeway!"

Had the KDWN of that era done anything more than sustain its patched-together, frozen-in-time operation with 24-7 brokered it would still be in that mode today. The problem is that even brokered hosts like to be on stations with listeners, especially if they're paying primo rates. That's even more important than signal. Thus you have to have some legit programming, otherwise you're a 50,000-watt bottom feeder getting chiseled on rates by the likes of KLAV. That generation of preachers that romanticized being on a "clear channel" is passing from the scene. The next generation of media ministries doesn't really care about all that skywave.

Bottom line, as in most markets, is that conservative talk radio listeners will tune in to the station carrying Rush/Beck/Hannity but don't care about any second-tier product... no matter what Talk Radio Network may tell you.

Since KXNT is not owned by the company that owns Rush, Hannity, Beck and Coast to Coast (which for crying out loud stated at KDWN), isn't outbidding KXNT for those shows an option in the future?

given the changes to KXNT, it is only a matter of time before KDWN gets Rush and Hannity. CBS is fixed on turning 840 into a "news station" they have no clue that it wont work in Vegas.

I agree it won't work. Plus there are no all-news stations in this size market. It's too expensive to operate outside of the major markets. I don't think they will go all the way with it.

Even if KXNT is pushing the "news station" hard I find it hard to believe they would give up Rush. They have a sweeper that says "news all morning, news-talk all day".
