Variety has been going after the CBS News story. This is the latest piece. I don't think there's anything particularly new in there, but it does summarize what's been going on up to this point.

Yes. From my perspective, I'd like more conservative traditional services to balance CNN, whatever MSNBC is now called, ABC, NBC and CBS.

People on the right don't accept it as there own, and people on the left don't try it even because there's a thing a lot of leftwing public figures do which is called "grifting" rightward which is seen a lot online, but people know what it is. Me personally, I think Tony is doing okay, but that's what you're seeing.

If the service starts with "we are conservative first, and objective and unbiased second," then that's....problematic. News is "who what when where and why." Report what happened, rather than how it makes you feel or if it fits your own personal narrative. More importantly (and I'm sure you know this due to your extensive experience in Latin America) if the "news" outlet begins and ends with "whatever the government/regime/leader tells us is correct" then that's even worse.

Going back to a post I made earlier about the current US President's claim he was going to "lower drug prices by 600 percent," it should be the job of an unbiased (as much as possible) news outlet to point out that such a claim is mathematically impossible, rather than saying (as a reply said) "well, what the President really meant to say was..."

The government/regime/leader doesn't need the press to stand up for it...they already have the power to put out an official narrative. The job of a free press is not - and should never be - to reinforce that official narrative, conservative or liberal.

I think in this example most people have an idea where the puck is headed before it gets there at CBS. Trump and MAGA hosts don't accept Bari Weiss as one of their own. Megyn Kelly called her a lesbian who is trying to make the news sentimental (make Tony the "Oprah" of news.) Left-wing viewers anticipate it being a Fox clone. So it basically doesn't leave it with many people.

Remember that most people under the age of 50 don't watch network news. So what Bari seems to be aiming for is creating video that they can put on YouTube and other places that get people talking. It's not about being left or right. Just provocative.

Well, as of now, I think they're doing okay with CBS Evening News so my points are moot so far. I'd probably become pretty repulsed if it becomes "Fox-ified" though. Have you watched?

Scott Jennings, a man with his head so far up Trump's backside he can name his brand of hairspray by the smell alone.

I've seen some of the clips of this guy, and while I understand CNN's need to "present the other side" or whatever, it reminds me of Jon Stewart's famous take down of "Crossfire" over 2 decades ago...yes, it really has been that long. And they didn't learn.

I suppose I wouldn't mind the provocative thing if Mrs. Weiss was factually correct. The problem is, thus far, she has (mostly) gotten the factual information wrong.
