How many other teams stuck with the old rule?

I believe it was four. In addition to Buffalo and the Chargers, Indianapolis and Cleveland stuck with the old rule.

I seem to think Cincinnati did too. It's par for the course for Mike Brown. Most of their games were blacked out last year because the fans finally got fed up with the poor management that's resulted in years of crappy teams.

Even when they last won the division a couple of years back they had a hard time selling out games, also due to resentment for giving Mike Brown ticket money.

Wouldn't they just take a different CBS game?

I'm not sure if they would be allowed to do that...does the NFL dictate that no other game can be shown in its place (with the rationale being "airing another game would keep fans away from attending the local game?")

It's true in the case of KPIX5 the CBS O&O in San Francisco if the Raiders Game is blacked out we are usually sent to another CBS Football game across the country or the Chargers.

People are really catching onto the fact that football is a game better suited for TV. There was an article about this in Sports Illustrated in the last week or two. I'm a huge football fan but I have no interest in ever going to a game live. The game is much easier to follow and more enjoyable on TV.

And you don't have to sit next to a group of drunken slobs using foul language to critique the game.

With the sale of AEG right now I think any talk of a new stadium in LA is just wishful thinking. The new owner may not want to be on the hook for a $1b+ new stadium.

And now the game is officially blacked out on Sunday, but on the bright side for Chargers fans, according to the article the team is 5-0 since 2010 in games that were blacked out:

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/sep/20/chargers-falcons-game-officially-blacked-out/

Does this mean San Diego TV Affiliates get the Raiders game in place of the Chargers?

KFMB 8 will get the Raiders game at 1 but won't get an early game. Fox 5 is replacing the Chargers late game with the San Francisco @ Minnesota early game.

Edit: KCBS is showing Kansas City @ New Orleans as the early game so those of you in north county can watch it. You can watch KCBS OTA because it is the reason we get blacked out isn't it? ::)

And the Raiders game is blacked out as well. That's half the AFC West, and that's not even including the worst team (Chiefs).

Buffalo's getting the Jet game at 1 instead. Not that good of a matchup either.

@Gallant: The league would never allow an empty early or late game window between two networks in a market.

Any word on Miami's home opener against Oakland? What would WFOR-TV (CBS) channel 4 of Miami show in its place if that happens?
Infomercials and or E/I programming

I wonder how much money an affiliate loses out on by showing that (or filler programming like tennis, soccer etc) instead of an NFL game WRT local spots. I'm sure advertisers are lined up for NFL games while they sit on the sideline when something else plays.

SOmetimes they'd lose enough that it makes sense for affiliates to buy (or promise to buy) the rest of the tickets. KMSP (Fox-Twin Cities) has done that, as recently as last year. Granted, it the example cited below, it was only 400 tickets unlike the Chargers' game.

vhttp://www.dailynorseman.com/2011/10/6/2474226/minnesota-vikings-sell-out-the-metrodome-again

a station probably decides its not worth it to buy remaining tickets when it has to take a huge loss buying them, even at just a small loss it still gives them eyeballs to see the local news promos
As for the tickets themselves, the stations can donate them to local charities upon purchase (They probably keep a list of charities just for this purpose) because it's a win for the station as they get the viewers & it's a win for the charities as it gives their clientele an event to attend if they so choose

Tonight's Raiders/Broncos game will be televised in the Bay Area.

Still no local blackouts in the seven-year history of "Thursday Night Football".
Article not a good one. Only gives barebones info. Link provided on the page above is a 404 NOT FOUND

Is there another article that does more than give barebones info?

Cheers & 73 :D
