Groan! This is why I'm playing our own Christmas CDs over my Part 15 FM.
We'll compare your ratings with theirs!
and train wrecks every third song on 95~One/94~Nine. Ewe (or should I say YIKES?!)
Cut him some slack, geez. Some of you on here are quick to bash this format and John's efforts to attract 55+.
I give him kudos for trying. Trainwrecks to you, but not to those praising his efforts.
If done right, the 55+ market is a GOLD RUSH looming. You've got thousands of genuine classic hit songs to pick and choose from, unlike the limitations of today's classic hits stations struggling to get thru the multi genre filled 90's and 00's.
Like a poster said earlier, give it a year.
And give it a chance.
The EOR format at least had some unique 'eclectic' music going for it. I remember enjoying the format on then-WGRX Westminster MD (now Classic Rock WZBA) when traveling in the area from '84 to '87. The numbers weren't robust, but I recall that it showed up in the Baltimore MD and Harrisburg PA ratings (this is before the 100.7 stick moved in closer to Baltimore). This 'Wow' thing sounds like it doesn't have any unique music, just overplayed selections from multiple formats, with crappy sound quality thrown in for bad measure. A pity that that's all they could muster. This is about as interesting as Sebastian's EOR format of several decades ago. Eclectic Oriented Rock back then was just as successful as this Eclectic Oriented Gold format is going to be.

This is following in the tradition of the other stations you like with low ratings, while "today's classic hits" are among the top rated stations in their market.
But lower rated stations still have audiences and that's their goals.
No, their goal is to make money. If their stream is blocked, that means you're not in an area that makes them money.
Any possible reason for Houston not being geofenced? Sebastian have family there?
But lower rated stations still have audiences and that's their goals. People that tune into these stations expect more songs than the alternatives out there. Unfortunately, I cannot pick up their stream. For some reason, it's blocked in our area, but just looking at their "just played" lists, it's a winner.
My guess is the geofence just doesn't work perfectly.
So far I've read that the only markets that get the stream are in Arizona and Texas, Houston specifically. Any possible reason for Houston not being geofenced? Sebastian have family there?
IIRC, GM Mike Cutchall makes his home in Houston.
The most telling fact is that the weekly time spent listening per person is under one hour. KOOL, KESZ and the like average 2 hours to 2:30. That means that those that have discovered the station tune out very soon; it must have a big number of negatives for such low TSL.. It's 28th in listening time.
In other words, every time you seg, somebody's going to punch out.
<...>The latter, from what I've read, had something to do with Curt Gowdy, then the Sox play-by-play man, being from Wyoming, although its hard to imagine his friends and neighbors still living back there during baseball season were big Red Sox fans.
