If they make money (and they do) with almost no overhead, CC ain't gonna flip KFYI to FM even though from a broadcasting standpoint it would be desireable. Now if CC had an FM that was just tanking, that would be another story. But I think all of their Phoenix FMs make some coin.

The fact that the national country-music craze of the mid-1990s through the mid-2000s has finally petered out can't be helping, either. Sometimes, it seems that the only format with currents holding any heat whatsoever is rhythmic pop. (Which probably explains all that Taylor Swift in the "country" playlists.)
You'd think that one of the two might try to break out of their mutual death spiral by leaning heavier toward either a classic, outlaw or alt sound rather than aping each other so thoroughly; then again, stations recycling each other's DJs probably aren't thinking in terms of establishing a clear identity for themselves in the first place.

It is interesting how this market is nothing but redundant formats. CHR, Country, AC, Rock, Talk. The one no one is going after is Kool. I would think that would be the golden goose, as they are really the only one without a direct competitor.

This morning I heard California Dreamin' on K-Slacks. When did the Mamas & Papas
become classic rock? Of course at the same time KOOL was playing Big Brother & the
Holding Company's Piece Of My Heart.![]()
