November PPM

KMXP is really seeing ratings erosion, and KZZP is rising to match. At this rate they'll be near tied or KZZP ahead in the next book.

I realize that we are looking at the 12+ numbers, but KTAR is flat from an overall ratings perspective over three books. Regardless of the industry, when your metrics are flat, it's time to make changes. I would be curious to see the breakdown in the key demos and see where KTAR sits in these demos.

I would also be curious to know how well BSJ is doing in his time slot versus Limbaugh. My guess is he is getting his a$$ handed to him by Rush. Am I wrong?

And how are Mac and Cheese doing?

Congrats go out to 101.5 Jamz, which is now number 2 in share with a 5.5, and number 1 in cume with a record breaking 1.16 million listeners!

Send the Coyote to a deserving rimshot and give us KFWhyEYE 95~Five!

I'm no genius with numbers, but if KFYI doesn't even show up in the 18-29 demo, is tied for 18th in the 25-54, and is still in 5th place in the (albeit unsellable) 6+ numbers, that tells me that radio's overall audience is aging big time. Not a news flash, of course. The punks...er, kids today are NOT listening to the radio and they probably won't ever.

On a related topic, yes, KYOT should be consigned to outer darkness based on ratings numbers, but.... If they make money (and they do) with almost no overhead, CC ain't gonna flip KFYI to FM even though from a broadcasting standpoint it would be desireable. Now if CC had an FM that was just tanking, that would be another story. But I think all of their Phoenix FMs make some coin.

KYOT is #22 in 25-54, the most important demo. It's #14 in 35-64, better but a less desirable demo. Maybe KYOT makes money but how much longer? Smooth jazz is all but extinct in most major markets. When do advertisers start fleeing?

Even KFYI at 18t leads KYOT in 25-54. KFYI leads KYOT big time in 35-64, #5 for the former, #14 for the latter. All that on 550 AM! KYOT may not necessarily be tanking, but those numbers bear some serious watching. :)

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that CBS' best horse in the 25-54 derby is KZON.

That is interesting that KZON is ahead of KOOL in 25-54. As expected, KOOL is #1 in 35-64. Classic hits fans have nowhere else to go. :)

Well there can be a slight formatic detour over to classic rock K-Slacks, which is #4 in that
"almost elderly" demo...and they also play Brown Eyed Girl! :D

And to think KNIX is the highest rated Country station 12 or 13 in the demo numbers. How sad is it that a heritage station like this has fallen to a weakened state?. Buck Owens would be weeping.

Perhaps Phoenix as a major market can no longer support two country stations. It was a different world when it was a small market. Buck Owens would be weeping, but Phoenix is no longer the same place. :)

The fact that the national country-music craze of the mid-1990s through the mid-2000s has finally petered out can't be helping, either. Sometimes, it seems that the only format with currents holding any heat whatsoever is rhythmic pop. (Which probably explains all that Taylor Swift in the "country" playlists.)

You'd think that one of the two might try to break out of their mutual death spiral by leaning heavier toward either a classic, outlaw or alt sound rather than aping each other so thoroughly; then again, stations recycling each other's DJs probably aren't thinking in terms of establishing a clear identity for themselves in the first place.

It is interesting how this market is nothing but redundant formats. CHR, Country, AC, Rock, Talk. The one no one is going after is Kool. I would think that would be the golden goose, as they are really the only one without a direct competitor.

I don't think any classic hits format anywhere has a direct competitor. In Phoenix, 98.7 The Peak would seem to be the closest, though not direct competitior. :)

Apparently K-Slacks wants to compete more with KOOL--or at least the KOOL of a
couple years ago when there was more '60s in the mix.

This morning I heard California Dreamin' on K-Slacks. When did the Mamas & Papas
become classic rock? Of course at the same time KOOL was playing Big Brother & the
Holding Company's Piece Of My Heart. :D

That's interesting! Is someone losing their way? California Dreamin' seems like it belongs on KOOL, since it was a #1 single in 1966. Piece Of My Heart was a cut from the album Cheap Thrills in 1968, and would appear to belong on KSLX. It is what it is! We don't get paid to make these decisions! :)
