NYC Dial-I wish it were like this.

Kevin, you gave reference to what you would like to hear on the New York AM dial, and you gave quite a list of stations. However you left out the following:

WSNR-AM 620
WWRV-AM 1330
WKDM-AM 1380
WNSW-AM 1430
WZRC-AM 1480
WWRU-AM 1660

I'm just wondering if you have any thoughts as to what you may like to hear on these stations in addition to the ones you have already outlined?

MarcR, we all know that you HATE dance music. Keep it to yourself. Let's not turn this thread into a bashing of dance music.

I was NOT bashing dance music, I was sticking up for National Public Radio! As I pointed out, I couldn't imagine replacing it with ANY commercial music format!

Someone else here defended NPR as well. And yes, it is necessary :) And I'll say it again, IF dance would appear on 93.9, it would only be because WNYC sold the station, not as a change of format.

And I don't see WNYC selling its class B commercial FM prime real estate unless someone offered WNYC a comparable non-commercial FM signal plus a load of cash for the 93.9 frequency. Otherwise WNYC has no real incentive to sell.

Actually, the Toronto market has a variety of formats on its dial even though Canadian broadcasters are permitted to own only two FM and two AM stations per market.

Having spent a chunk of my life in Canada, I'm here to say that you're comparing apples & oranges.

There's a certain arrogance in the United States that says we cannot learn anything from Canada, from their universal health care system to their regulation of banking. Why exactly, then, am I comparing apples and oranges?

Why would you ever wanna get rid of Z100 for their old format Beautiful Music? You kept NOW FM? NOW FM BLOWS Compared to Z! Half the other Top 40s across the nation use Z as their model! It's like apart of NYC Metro area History its well known just as PLJ, Lite FM, Hot 97, BLS, Q104.3,Mega, & Kiss FM are

Even though I do like 92.3 NOW, if anything, 92.3 would be the one flipping. Love or hate Z100, the station has been in the CHR format for many years and there's no chance of flipping.

I purposely left those stations out because most of them if not all are just 5,000 watt stations and secpnd, those stations never cracked the top 20.

The best format for those stations are either ethnic programming or brokered time.

Thanks,

Agreed! Z-100 is a solid, well established brand name in CHR. If 92.3 NOW-FM flips, get ready for WFAN on 660 AM and 92.3 FM. :)

Are you sure you really want to throw WNYC's thoughtful talk and WQXR's last-in-the-city classical and fine arts programming off the dial? Not a good idea to leave the city to the tender mercies of the rant-fest at WOR, WABC and WNYM...

Okay, this is getting out of hand. Now there are too many rock outlets. This is not Philadelphia, or Boston. This is NYC. Where the world comes to party! Where the world comes for entertainment! Where the world is in one big city!

Here is my wish list on this. I am dumping the clones, include the dial below 92, and make everyone happy.

87.7 - Russian CHR (WNYZ) (or possibly GOROD-FM only it's legal)
88.3 - Jazz (WBGO)
90.7 - Public Radio (WFUV)
91.5 - News/Talk (WNYE)
92.3 - MOR/Alternative (WXRK)
93.1 - Gen X Radio (WPIX)
93.9 - NPR (WNYC)
94.7 - Classical (WQXR)
95.5 - Country (WBAI) I-95 (for branding purposes)
96.3 - Latin Rhythmic (WXNY) X 96.3
97.1 - Hip-Hop (WQHT) (Hot 97)
97.9 - Tropical A/C (WSKQ) (La Mega)
98.7 - Urban Contemporary (WRKS) (Kiss-FM)
99.5 - Adult CHR (WPLJ)
100.3 - Mainstream CHR (WHTZ) (Z100)
101.1 - Oldies/Classic Hits (WCBS)
101.9 - Dance (WRXP) 101.9 The Party

103.5 - Rhythmic A/C (WKTU)
104.3 - Classic Rock (WAXQ) (Q104)
105.1 - Rhythmic CHR/Urban (WWPR) (Power 105)
105.9 - Smooth Jazz (WQCD)
106.7 - A/C (WLTW) Mix FM (Sorry, the new jingles killed the LiteFM branding)
107.5 - Classic Hip-Hop (WBLS) 107.5 The Block

Half the signals I put in aren't even from the NY Market it's what I can pick up.
Those that aren't NYC are:
102.3-Sussex,NJ
103.1-Newburgh,NY
103.7-Sussex,NJ
105.5-Morristown,NJ
106.3-Sussex,NJ
107.1-West Chester County,NY

Lol, Not everyone can pick up those stations tho. If I knew that, I would've thrown in the Shore stations ;D

Most of the NY area is able to pick up WBAB over the Sussex 102.3 although at this time of year, it could vary a little more because of tropo. WXPK (107.1 Westchester)'s signal is surprisingly strong over Long Island.
