NYY

I suppose it's possible that they could still run the Yankees on 99.7, or True Oldies 790. Just because they're not sports all the time anymore doesn't mean they can't still run the Yankees (or Patriots for that matter).

This is true. WCBS the all news station from New York ran Yankees Baseball for several seasons. Not sure if they still do. I guess if the games are available, anybody interested can try to obtain the rights for local Broadcast. Even Hot 106 could air the games if they were interested. But that is the Million Dollar question. Is anybody interested?

Interesting question. Keep in mind WSKO replaced a different NY Yankees affiliate a few years ago. Prior to being on WSKO, the Yankees were on that joker station WARL 1320.

Memory serves me right, they were on HJJ before the Score picked them up....

I remember that HJJ used to air Red Sox games and the station had bumper stickers where the two J's in the call letters were socks. Anybody else remember that?

The Yankees don't need to be on the radio in RI. If people from NY visit RI during the summer or something they can just go without it or put on WCBS 880.

DUH, oh, of course, Ken, spoken like a true Red Sox fan...(I can hear the Real Men of Genius jingle, now) Only people from NY visiting RI during the summer (or something) listen to the Yankees ???...otherwise, they can just go without ??? WHAT ??? HUH ???
Yankees bring revenue...lots of Yankee fans in Rhode Island, like it or not...not just those visiting the Ocean State, on their Summer vacation (LOL)... ???
And, yes, WCBS 880 does still carry the Yanks, but the signal isn't the greatest in these parts...thus, the reason for The Score picking them up, a few years ago. Also, the reason that every sporting goods chain carries Yankee merchandise, and that they are frequenly featured on the Fox and ESPN games of the week. Yankee baseball brings in the bucks.

So if your a Red Sox fan from Boston and your going on a 2 week vacation to Florida your not going to be able to listen to the Red Sox. I think it makes sense. If a Yankee fan wants to visit RI or Boston or points north why should they be able to get to hear their Yankees in Red Sox Nation.

OK - I've got what may be a stupid question, but humor me anyway, as I'm no longer in the area.

Why are the Red Sox even allowing out-of-market broadcasts in Providence anyhow? From what I understand, RI (and CT, for that matter) falls squarely within Sox territory as dictated by MLB. This means the Sox can put the kibosh on it at anytime. So why haven't they? I can't believe this has flown under their radar.

CT, I can understand the Sox letting slide, even though, from what I saw, it definitely belongs to them. There's a long history of Yankees coverage there.

But Providence?

True why should the Yankees be heard so close to MA where the Red Sox are located. It makes no sense. As for CT they are 50/50 plus CT falls in between NY and MA so it should be a given that CT should play both teams on the radio.

Isn't there only maybe a 20 or 30 mile rule? 1310 WORC in Worcester carried the Yankees for a while before they went spanish. 1270 WTSN in Dover, NH does, or has in the past also.

The NYY have a tradition of making a certain Med'n ethnic group feel like winners even when said group, was declaring war against the US in 1941.
It's kind of pathetic, but if you have a vowel at the end of your name, you may want to hear the nyy in this area.

Yankees have been on in the Providence market for over 30 years that I know of. There are tons of transplanted New Yorkers and their descendants here. This ain't Massachusetts you know. The southern part of the state is closer to NY than the self-proclaimed Hub.
Yes, there are plenty of German and Italian Americans who are Yankee fans because of the legacy of Ruth, Gehrig, Rizzuto, Dimaggio, Steinbrenner, etc. My German born father in law is one of them.
Not so pathetic. Germany and Italy are fantastic places to live while the US is not so slowly becoming a Third World sewer. That's pathetic.

I'm assuming there's been no official word from Citadel Providence on the NYY matter.

If that's the case, I'm starting to get just a tad concerned.

Whatever decision Citadel Providence makes, I hope they do it soon, in case the Yankees need to scramble to make other arrangements.

I am sure that the Yankees already know. It's just the common day folk like us that don't know.

What's pathetic is your knowledge of geography. Boston is about 90 miles from Westerly, RI's southwestern most town, while New York is about 140 miles away.

Like SkyNet says, Providence will scramble for the Yankees, the Yankees won't scramble for Providence.
