OK...Is CC stunting with WUBL, "The Bull?"

So is ClearChannel just stunting with this "The Bull" country sneek peek or was this just an error by the web design weenies?
I smell a rat!
Are there markets where ClearChannel has developed country and executed the format well? Do they have the corperate "talent" to develope this format?
Does country, positioned for men, really make sense for Atlanta? (As someone pointed out on a post earlier, "THE Bull" positioner is NOT female friendly) That would be a total surrender of female listeners by the largest broadcast organization in market 10.
Do you really think Moby would be a good pick for this, if true? Who else, besides Rhubarb, has ANY name recognition in Atlanta for mornings?
WKHX is ripe for the pickin'......Caddy may be a nice guy (and was great for afternooons by himself) but he is terrible in AM drive. Mornings could be had by practically anyone. And the rest of the day is just a jukebox.
WKHX has never been strong, formatically or promotionally, simply because they don't have to be.......at least since they bought Y106.
If it were Cox doing this than I would fear for WKHX. I will be surprised if CC comes in with this format and succeeds.

Birmingham, Austin, Greensboro, Hartford, Nashville, Oklahoma City...Actually, they're dominant or highly competitive in pretty much every market where they have country on a full-market signal.

Kicks might as well start calling itself the Cow...:)

I can only speak about Nashville: when CC took over WSIX, it was already dominant.
CC didn't mess with it...other than implementing NexGen to replace manually playing CDs.
Contrary to numerous posts...and the idiotic FCC meeting in Nashville last week...
WSIX is 100% locally programmed. There is limited voice-tracking...and "After Midnight" runs overnights...but there is NO person or group in San Antonio calling the shots. L-O-C-A-L.

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one wondering whether the website reveal was a little too coincidental.

"Wondering" is the key word here ... because darned if I've been able to come up with a firm conclusion even in my own mind.

My latest notion is that this is probably an attempt to get a little free publicity for themselves while trying to force a tipping of the hand concerning WYAY. While the Bull target is obviously more Kicks than Eagle, things for CC are impacted by whether there's changes at 106.7.

I think Moby is pretty much the most logical choice for the morning show. I mean, what else are they going to do, bring back Banjo & Bozo? Then again, this is CC Atlanta ... logic isn't always the driving force behind some of their decisions (although I think they may have gotten their most recent change more right than wrong)

Isn't Big D and Bubba a syndicated show?

I've wondered the same thing about stunting. The rule I've always been told (and experience has shown is usually correct) is, when in doubt, it's not a stunt. Stunts don't really happen that often. The FCC database also shows Clear Channel has requested the WUBL calls. However, it doesn't show which station will get them.

As for Clear Channel creating successful country stations, Birmingham's Bull is one. However, many of the others on that list, like Austin, Nashville, Hartford and Oklahoma City, were country long before they took over. And, yes, Big D and Bubba is a syndicated show, but, as I recall, it's based out of WSIX.

The "BULL" will debut Monday the 18th. Confirmed from within the building of death.

if y and kicks morning shows survive, the new owners, and some competition
may be the best thing to happen to them in the last 15 years...

Of course it's not a stunt. You thing Cheap Channel would put this much time and effort into a stunt? Hell, they barely even put this much effort into most of their actual stations

How stupid. Why don't they wait until after Christmas? Flipping to Country tomorrow makes doing the Christmas music look very foolish. I knew Clear channel was stupid...but not THIS stupid!

Again.....I ask.....will ClearChannel surrender almost all female listenership with this switch?
Or will "The Bull" be formatically pleasing to women....sort of like KHX on estrogen? It just doesn't seem to be the right imaging for a chick station.
In a market which is 54% female (over 2 million chicky-poos) why would you not keep at least one female oriented station?

They needed a place for the Braves for the next few years and the only two signals to satisfy that our 94.9 and 96.1. I don't think an active rocker and baseball make much sense nor does the movin' format plus the Bravesmake much sense. Male-skewing country in Atlanta was certainly one of their best options. They could have gone talk or sports talk but that doesn't make much sense in this town and we all know their talk radio record here.

Fall ratings are already over. They probably got the numbers they were after by playing Christmas music; now that ratings are over I'm sure it wouldn't matter to CC whether they flipped it before or after Christmas.

It's obvious that the decision to flip Lite to Country was made before the Christmas music even started. So why would they even care about ratings since the whole darn thing was gong to get blown up anyway?

It's not the first time a CC website was prematurely given the green light. The website for Party in Denver with Whoopi's face all over it was live weeks before 95.7 switched from Spanish to rhythmic AC. And I think a similar station in Rochester had its new website exposed days before their subsequent flip.

I'm not sure where the earlier poster got his information from "inside the building", but there's been nothing from CC management on this. Ratings aside, why would Chuck Deskins want to be known as the grinch who stole the Christmas music a week before the holiday? You know CC would get skewered in the AJC and elsewhere. What's the point in taking on another level of criticism? Better to start the country format with as much positive PR as they can get.

watch for musical djs over holidays

why the timing may be great...

since y and kix are in process of takeover by new owners, watch to see any fired dj's wind up at the new bull.
rhubarb, dallas, moby, caddy, any of em...

thats what happened in bham. patty and dollar bill got fired, and the cc station grabbed em, and won for three years.

now thay have a morning show on wzzk, and beating the bull over there for the past year.
thats the guy from b98 and y in atlanta. cc may also make a go at getting him back in atl and away from the bull in bham.

and why would cc not change now? they have been getting better rating by changing formats every christmas
(when do they go all christmas now, halloween?)

the competition will be good for the market (listeners)

yes...BD&B are syndicated by Premiere...mornings...from WSIX.
WSIX does not air the morning show...(Gerry House & The House Foundation WSIX mornings)
BD&B do afternoons on WSIX...a totally different show from the Premiere stuff
