Oldies 103.7

I think Celeste Perry reads the threads on this site. Today, I heard her say, " The 'O' word is back. Yes it is now safe to say Oldies, Oldies 103.7."

That's kind of silly and unprofessional... just like an inside joke.

Listeners don't reject the "oldies" term... it's advertisers who are leery of old demos that go against client dictates.

You know what, you might be right, a few songs later she mentioned she got that liner from a post she read from 106KIFR.

Of all of Clear Channel's FM stations in San Francisco (KYLD-94.9, KISQ-98.1, KIOI-101.3, KKSF-103.7 & KMEL-106.1), Which ones have Live & Local Morning Shows and which ones are Voice Tracked? I hear that Don Bleu on Star 101.3 is live while the morning guy on Oldies 103.7 is voice tracked. How about the others?

Which leaves out KKSF-Oldies 103.7. That is why I suggested that someone like a Dave Sholin or John Mack Flanagan to do mornings live perhaps with Celeste Perry?

Johnny Mack will never do it. Dave is a good guy, but he's not in the league he would need to be to do a really great morning show with Celeste Perry. He wasn't before at KFRC...

It might be less of a challenge to move Don Bleu from Star to Oldies 103.7 and hire a new morning show for Star.

Which would probably motivate Don Bleu to retire. He's been talking about it for a few years. Why would he want to be on a new radio station with (possibly) limited ratings potential? I'm sure he doesn't need the money.

This idea would probably fall into the "if it ain't broke..." category

Correct. He doesn't need the dough, and would probably retire. A few weeks ago, were visiting about traveling out of town to visit grandkids and babysit for a few days. He has the bucks, family, golf. He won't go to the oldies station. I'm not sure they will spend the money over at CC to attract another franchise player, and properly promote him to replace Bleu on K101. It's been a huge cash cow for them for years, I don't think they'll mess with that morning show as long as Don wants to continue doing it.

And then...there's plenty of parking to be had in the 340 Townsend garage after about 10am.

HEY!!! There's a new non-traditional revenue stream for CC!! They can charge a hell of a lot more for those parking spots than for spots on most of their stations.

I cant believe that CC overlooked the two most "over qaulified DJs in the bay area to be on 103.7,,, without a doubt,, John Mack Flanagan, and Bobby Ocean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These two guys draw people in,,, ratings shoot thru the roof, and with Bobby Ocean you get the real 'Voice Over " guy,,, Ive yet to understand why radio is like it is, but one thing for sure,, after tuning in and sampling 103.7,,,,, only for a 1/2 hour to see what im missing, it was nothing,,, so right back to the Boss of the bay 1260 KYA,, thanks to AT&T and Apples iphone4, you get 1260 in the car! And last but not least, Thanks to Gary Mora!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kenny in Concord

I'll take that a step further, and just play my collection of unscoped airchecks ;D

BTW, I have figured out 103.7. They still play the same 'ol classic rock with the occasional overplayed Motown hits. I'll stick with 1550. Yeah it's on AM, yeah it's sydicated, but their playlist blows 103.7 out of the water. When I want oldies, I want it to mirror the great Top 40's of that era. If they don't want to fork over for air talent, at least get a jingle package and a good refrshing playlist going. These ppl at CC are dragging their feet on getting this station in gear.

It's CC. They don't want to spend money on anything... That is, unless they WANT to spend. They will for some and not for others. Weird company and if they want good jingles they'll need to leave CC favorite Reel World behind, and look to one of the more established jingle companies. But that would cost money...

Isn't it sad that they voice track in the top 10 markets? Why not staff your top stations and export tracks from them to the smaller markets. You'd get better talent for the big stations and it would make the smaller ones sound better too, but for some reason CC does it the other way around, or worse, goes with no jocks.

I'm not sure that makes a difference where they're tracking their shows. Lisa Foxx and Kari Steele (Star 101.3) work out of LA (My FM). Tony Sandoval (KISQ) also voice tracks Hot 92.3 in LA, but is based here - or at least, he used to be. I believe he's from the South Bay - he always makes a lot of local references on his Kiss-FM show to local events, people, etc.

Even a voice-tracked show can have good content and local references geared to each market their show airs - the jocks just have to spend some time and do some homework. But they often don't - probably because CC doesn't care and doesn't pay them enough to make it worth their while to do anyting but a very minimal job. And if you only want your jocks to open the mic once or twice every half hour for only a few seconds, does it really make any difference?
