Oldies 103.7

DJ's, Voicetracking, Jingles, etc.....

Bottom line....If the music's no good, people aren't gonna tune-in!

Right now, overall, the music is just "no good" on this station!

Guess KOOL & KRTH aren't good enough models for them to follow?

CC S.F. refuses to see the light with this station??....But there's always hope!

OK, I'll bite... what would you have them play that they aren't (or have them not play)? Granted, they're overplaying stuff I never need to heard again (hello, "American Pie") but it still strikes me as a broader range of songs than I was expecting.

Lol....Ok Mike!

Wait til after 10 am (once the Morning shows are over) then...Stream KOOL/PHX (kool.radio.com)...And KRTH/L.A. (same site)...Listen for an hour to each...And there's your answer!

I'll eat my hat if you tell me these stations don't sound a ton better & play much better music?

Bingo! Put a kid in charge of programming oldies from the corporate 'safe' list, and you get what you pay for! CC actually had an aggregated list of test scores for songs, assembled from music tests done around the country.

It's not unusual in any company and era for a station to launch with a consensus list of songs... ones that generally work well in all locations.

Once a station has developed a cume, then actual listeners can be recruited for a local music test. The advantage of doing it that way is that nobody "out there" will know about the format change because there are no meeting room bookings, no people telling friends about the project they did (see KJR thread on Seattle board) and sometimes actually inviting some other station in first (see the dual CHR flips in Milwuakee about a year ago).

In general, checking out the tests of other stations in the same company is a very normal procedure.

And age does not determine how well a person can program. Being able to interpret listener tastes is the skill, not being the same age as the listeners. When I was about 20, I did a successful Beautiful Music station... yet I was half the age of the average listener. When you say "they put a kid in charge" you are not being fair and open to the possibility that new "ears" might actually bring a fresher approach to the format than some old fart (like me, for example) might bring with their "I played those songs when they were currents..." attitude.

David- Some good points, but CC will not do any local testing for this station. Young is no problem, but someone who has no clue for the format is...and someone who when running another station in the cluster, never set foot in the studio in 6 months. That's not the way to run a radio station!
