Oldies On The Internet

Ah yes but haven't you heard, all that testing, Indicates the listeners have to hear the same tired 20 songs over and over and over, over...wink, wink.
I wonder when the testers might try those 28,000 other songs that charted between 1955-1975.

You mean 2,800..... :D

We should just start up a new station, where ANYTHING goes, meaning "Brown Eyed Girl" is played....once a week max! :)

"Brown Eyed Girl" should be played no more than once a month if you really expand the playlist.

There vare some very knowledgable folks here.......good research project how many songs charted from 1955-1975, I'm guessing, about 30,000......Top 50, say half that number ..that's still around 15,000.....If a station can only find 1,500 quality songs out of 15,000.....there needs to be a new method. I've heard many internet stations (Including yours) and you all have a hell of alot more than 1,500 quality cuts.
;D

I was listening to an internet station today that played "Peek-A-Boo" by The Cadillacs. That's the kind of thing we need to hear more of.

Is KRTH-HD2 available on the web?

Yep. Go to the KRTH website and click on the "K-Earth Classics" icon. Or you can find it on iTunes.
Reliable, good quality stream. Not as deep as my personal favorites, but still a very enjoyable commercial-free mix.

I listen to KRTH HD2 on my Android phone. Just Google it, KRTH HD2 App, then download under MARKET. It works just fine hours and hours of music...

;D

Expand that to the mid 80's...several thousand more songs are added!
Even a few pre 55's can be played too. Some of the #1 singles from 1950-1955 could qualify.

3:03am "My Girl", 3:06am "Unchained Melody", 3:09am "Sugar Sugar"........

"Unchained Melody" for sure. I really liked the record years ago, but it has become THE most over played record in history--though I could listen to Al Hibblers' version.

I found it by googling "KRTH-HD2". Pretty good selection of music I must say.

+1.

The Fleetwoods had a nice cover of "Unchained". I think you might be able to find it on YouTube. I've not heard it in the rotation on any streams we're talking about in this thread.

Hibblers' I hear occasionally. I'll have to search for the Fleetwoods version.

Les Baxter had a nice #1 version in '55. Who had the original release? Baxter, Hibbler, Roy Hamilton, or June Valli (all charted in '55).

for the 12,000,000,000 each..........they could never play every number one song again , and I would never miss them...

I remember Baxter's also. June Valli's I don't. I did find the Fleetwoods version & it's pretty good.

I believe the movie score was the first, then Baxter, then the rest. The Righteous brothers did it on a Spector "B" side which did not have the "Wall of Sound"..hence, a clear beautiful version that has become a standard. Speaking of Spector.....Al Pacino is starring in an HBO Spector Bio-pic entitled "Be My Baby" I can't wait to see that one. Wow !!

one version probably not heard on oldies...Ronnie McDowell did a version. a great song is a great song...one reason standards get covered a lot...Joe Cocker does some terrific covers of songs...some better than the originals..IMHO 8)

Although the song is credited to the Righteous Brothers, Bobby Hatfield actually sang the song solo.
