Oldies Radio Is Dead. Get Over It.

not very informed

You are just plain wrong, sir. That may be YOUR "opinion" but all adult formats have a 25-54 umbrella where they need to perform well(duh).

Classic Rock's current Programming target is 40+ males (most wouldn't admit they have few listeners under 40). Do your homework.

Classic rock is next on the executioner's block. It's old and tired, even moreso than oldies. Classic rock target demo is 45-54, which is the Oldies core. In fact, classic rock is even more niched in that it targets men. Oldies is at least 50/50.
Edited by cmatthews on 06/13/05 02:37 AM.

You're rant (sic) is mistaken on several counts...in fact, all of them...

1. I'm 42...gonna be 43...hardly a GenXer, and certainly not a Yuppie. I'm one of you....just a little more based in reality.

2. Cobain (with a C) is to the next generation what Jim Morrison was to ours (yours? )...a poet clown that wasted his talent. Brilliant, but just as dead as if he was stupid.

3.I too love the white album...as do my daughters, 14 and 12. They also like James Taylor, and Green Day. No accounting for taste.

4. If you'll take the time to actually read my post, instead of insinuating things about me and my ilk, you'll note I pointed out that we still buy things. Just not NEW things. We're set in our patterns...and no amount of marketing will change that.

5. Hate Stern..He's a wanna-be Imus, without the records. Imus? Much funnier when he was coked up. Never Heard of McCloud. The rest? Legends then...merely legendARY now. And you forgot Tommy Edwards.

6. Paul was, and is, a wonderful entertainer. Not the greatest Beatle, but certainly the most commercial. Perfect for a bland non-event like the halftime show in the Super Bowl. Ever actually try to watch one of those things?

7. Ratings are one thing, revenue is another. You mistake the popularity of the formats with the viability. Try again. Of course there are exceptions....they're not the standard (no pun intended.)

8. Gimme the pink slip, bucko.....I'm a card carrying member of the Animal Stories News Team, having grown up in WOWO's back yard--Fort Wayne....and under the shadow of both WLS and CKLW. Got em on vinyl. I'll make you a copy if you'd like. Give you something to do at home, now that I own your car. Uncle Lar and little snot-nosed Tommy would be proud.

9. The Jack format will last a few years...just like Jammin Oldies. The clones...not that long..not as well done. Sure as hell not 'my' format. Just because it's replacing oldies doesn't mean it's the format of choice, either.

I don't dislike Oldies (see other posts)....I just know that it's slowly slipping away. Sorry bout your luck. E-mail me as to where I can pick up my 65 mustang. And does it have a pony interior?

Cobain & Jim Morrison?

Kurt Cobain's tragic death has been compared to Morrison's and John Lennon's.

That is laughable- his influence on rock is a thimble-full compared to the truckload from Lennon and Morrison. When I hear 20 and 30-somethings make this comparison, I laugh so hard I almost have kittens.

My humble apologies tiny( and no you can't have my car). Just hard to take when someone tells you the music you frew up with and are passionate about is ...well dead.
My only argument with your above post is Tommy Edwards basically would have been just another average top-40 jock had it not been for Lujack. I remember listening to him middays on "the rock of Chicago"... average.
Now if you will excuse me I gotta listen to some Dylan.." the times they are a changin" how true, how true.
