Moose and jmobook - I never said BM formatics were in use at Oldies 93 - my original comment was the BM formatics applied to a "LOT OF FORMATS TODAY" - long music sweeps, quick positioning liners, limited commercials - sounds like of lot of stations (which, IMOH, is part of the problem with the biz).
The connection I originally made between BM and Oldies was the aging demographics and how as that formats audience aged (and died) there were very few new listeners coming in on the young side to replace them. That is happening to a great extent to Oldies, however, there is a lot more money in the older demos today than in the 80s when BM died.
A well done, personality oriented oldies station (like the fomer Oldies 93) can still make a lot of money!!! And isn't that what it is all about?

I recently got to produce Charlie again for WOMC/Detroit. Was a lot of fun.
Jeff Laurence gives you the big voice, but is also more flexible on many reads compared to the two above. Especially with the proper writing. Jeff is my fav.
Solomon was great! I still talk to Dave today. He owns and runs successful internet stations as well as a marketing and VO business.

"Oldies" started with WCBS had grew from there. Many stations were playing mid-late 50s in the mid 70s. "Happy Days", debuted 1974, helped the format pick up steam nationwide.
Later, when "oldies" hit it's stride in the early 90s the mid 50s were still being played, and those stations did quite well. I played 50s titles at WMJI in 1999. Even had a "Fab 50s Weekend", later re-branded as "The Roots of Rock n Roll" as CC didn't want "oldies" used on air.

He even had WZFB sounding good the short time he owned it.
If the movie Grease was remade today with Mario Lopez and Jessica Simpson, Oldies would come back. I mean 50's Doo Wop and all. Everly Brothers, and everything. Shana na reunion tour etc. Bank it.
Now that's a blockbuster movie!!!
Wrong Ape, you are totally WRONG. we see what happened when they did the new woodstock. It was a disaster and it sucked. Not the same thing at all. Some things you have to really think about and not just click the post button, pal!! :-\ :-*
