Omnia 11- first look

I can't wait to hear it.

When I listen to Breakaway Broadcast Processor there's markedly less IM distortion...voices process much differently and are notably cleaner.

Perhaps this will emulate that $200-$300 piece of software in sound. ::)
 
What I heard already of Frank's new clipper was quite impressive, and I'm told it's been improved since then too. None the least CG's completely new core processing, which could change the way people think about their processing goals. The Omnia booth will be buzzing this year.

I vote for an endless loop of Tone Loc's "Funky Cold Medina"... That will be sure to annoy anyone nearby!

Seriously, though...

I would love to hear some good quality demos of the newer processors posted (after the show, of course) for those of us who don't make it out to the big celebration... Something like Breakaway does, using songs with different processing challenges. and with a variety of presets or settings.

They wouldn't even have to be comparisons to other manufacturers boxes, just a straight-out demo from each, giving an idea of what the latest and greatest can bring to our ears!

Sincerely, I'm not for any of these online demos. Never have been. We've spent years working on ways/means to improve the performance of the audio processor. It would be sad for any of you to be introduced to new tech via a 'challenged' transmission path, especially for an FM system where preemphasis/deemphasis will be employed somewhere in the system.

While online demos may give you a quick 'peak' at something, they may, and usually do take away from the benefits gained from latest developments. Unless you have access to the box or boxes to test, along with being able to control and setup the system(s) as desired, online demos are weak, at best.

I can understand you not wanting to post demos due to these stated limitations and possibly inaccurate results, but it's just a disappointment to not be able to hear any of this gear until it's years old!

As you might read in my other posts, I'm scrounging junk off ebay to put on the air, so a $10K+ box isn't going to happen in my world anytime soon. Since I know that to be the case, I'm not going to try to waste your time setting up a demo. Besides, I'm just a part-time mediocre voice-track jock with a fetish for broadcasting. I have NO financial interest in the station at all, but I do have some influence if the purse strings should open up down the road.

Are there any other venues besides NAB where I can hear audio processing demos, maybe closer to the east coast? It seems I remember some audio processing (maybe it was the Aphex air chain- back in the day) at our own SBE show in Syracuse (now held at Turning Stone Casino- Verona, NY) in the fall. Most of that show is video stuff, though... Yes, video is my day job!

Couple of quick thoughts...

There will be numerous opportunities to hear our new offerings aside from NAB in the upcoming months, and this will be all over.

Also, keep your eyes peeled for further processing activities from us that encompass the rest of our product line. NAB is only the beginning...

Frank, I know that some of your clients publicize their processing purchases ... so will you guys put out a press release or something that notes some of those first stations that sign on with the Omnia 11? I look forward to hearing it on the air in a city near me!

I think I know where one is on right now... and if it is, the mids and highs are alot cleaner... but the bass and the overall texture of the processing doesn't sound much different than the 6 (the bass doesn't overpower the mix like it could in the 6, but the bass wasn't exceptionally warm or smooth either. The rest of the audio wasn't very exciting. It had that same "lying there" Omnia sound, albeit the cleaner mids/highs did allow for more detail).

Overall the sound is medium-aggressive. I would be interested in what else it can do.

Sorry, not Omnia.11. We did put prototypes on-air prior, but nothing's out at present.
