If we were to reply, I would make sure that the Omnia guy's voice sounded distorted and that it had a different spectral balance each time he spoke :)

I said it was "so old", not "crazy. Look at it this way, we have female engineers in the business now. Unless they are lesbians, do you really think a picture of a female in a product ad is going to convince the female engineer to try the product?

And while we're at it, where are the sexy male ads using this criteria for trying to sell a product to the engineering ladies?

This form of advertising is outdated, "so old".

R

Ummmm.....welll....OK, from this female's point of view:

Maybe it's all the years of looking at ads with sexy chicks in them, but I don't know if a sexy guy pushing an audio processor would do it for me. It just doesn't look right to what's left of my twisted brain. See, it's not so much "sex" as humor. That's what that Sony ad was doing, and that's what the ad with the woman on the barstool are doing.

They're silly ads, designed for people with a sense of humor and to have them remember the company name. I don't know...about some of you but I cracked up when I saw that Sony spot.

Either way, I'm not going to run out and buy X processor over Y processor or console A over console B just because it had a drool-worthy girl or guy spread all over the ad. I hope none of you guys do either. But a silly ad like that will help me keep the company name in mind. Well, at least that's what the marketing department at Global Humongous Broadcast Gear Manufacturer Co. is counting on. :)

Stephanie,

You get the prize!! :) Yes, they are silly/naughty ads.

I've stayed out of the dialogs about those ads, until now, as I wanted observe what others thought. They were created to generate buzz. Guess what? THEY DID!! The ads in our industry, in my view, have become BORING, ours were going that way too. So, I made the decision to mix it up, and we did. The campaign will run itself out, but it generated two issues worth of letters to the editor in a trade pub (with about 90% positive response). That was added FREE publicity as they ran a smaller version of the ad in the editorial section. Hey...even you guys are talking about them here. We planned for some pushback, and received it.

Recently there was a Harvard Business article on marketing. It said, if your print ads are not generating some complaints, you're doing something wrong! From the marketing perspective, our plan worked.

Let's consider another part of our industry. How many TV cameras get purchased because ALL of them use hot, sexy, 'babes' in their NAB exhibits? Answer: LOTS!! How many radio engineers walk the TV hall to see them? Answer: LOTS!!! If you want to peg something as 'sexist,' that's it. If cameras were only purchased because SONY, Ikegami, and whoever else makes them, and only demo'd their gear with a boring display, then most TV stations would be transmitting BLACK! :)

Seriously, if we can't have a bit of fun once in awhile, then is it really worth it? Has our society/culture become wrapped so tight, that injecting a bit of humor is a no-no? If so, then maybe its time for me to burn coal full time.

I honestly, and sincerely thank all of you for your comments.

Funny... I think I saw this video on Youtube much b4 Omnia published it on their website...
Yes, there are two of these "Omnia vs. Orban" clips on YouTube, which have been there for quite a while. I was quite surprised to find the same video show up on the main page of Omnia's web site.

I find the video spoofs to be quite amusing and even a bit ironic, because anyone who has heard the damage that "DSP code" processors can inflict when misused by major-market stations, will tend to prefer the "smooth and round" texture of less aggressive processing instead, even if the highs are not quite as bright.
