Statement on Pete Sheppard

Statement Regarding Pete Sheppard from Entercom New England

Vice President and Market Manager Julie Kahn

and Vice President of AM Programming Jason Wolfe

“As we continue to operate in challenging economic times, it is with regret that we announce today that we have eliminated Pete Sheppard’s position as sports anchor on the Big Show. We’d like to thank Pete for his outstanding work with WEEI over the last ten years. He played a major role in our growth, and helped “The Big Show” become one of the top radio shows in the country. We wish Pete the best of luck in his future endeavors and remain extremely grateful for all his contributions over the past decade.

That is just wrong! It would serve them right if he ended up on Felger's show. Pete could be a doofus at times, but he was entertaining. What a rotten business. I don't see how you people stay in it.

I hated his tough-guy routine with certain callers when he was in his capacity as the flash guy, but he was, ironically, much better as the fill-in host for Ordway. He let people talk, and was not as immediately defensive and forthcoming with the Patriot party line. Entercom can't have enough bad things happen to it, especially when Limbaugh leaves for 1200 this spring (I hope).

Oops, was thinking the same thing but is WBZ-FM at the old 38 bldg or are they with the mothership on SFR?

38 building. Hang a right out of the Guest Street lobby, walk down the street and under the WGBH bridge, cross Market Street and you're there :)

At least they're addressing the issue on the air, and not hanging up on callers that want to talk about it. What makes anyone think that 98.5 has an unlimited budget? CBS is probably hurting almost as bad as Entercom.

LOL - Just came on here to post that about Curt. Is he boycotting all of his WEEI appearances, including D&C, or just The Big Show? I can't quite picture Curt boycotting the entire station.

Iam going to miss the Real Post Game show with Freddy.
They are homers but, Pete and Fred knew right away Tom Brady was the real thing and better than Bledsoe.
Big O had his doubts.

Curt Schilling at the end of his call just now said that he won't be heard on WEEI until Pete's back!
Well that one good thing about Pete Sheppard leaving. But I know" LOUD MOUTH BLOW Hard Curt Suckup "will be back on WEEI.

Gee, that's two big-mouthed know-it-alls that I won't miss on my way home. Too bad for Pete, maybe Dick Robinson will find a spot for him at CSB.

well i am shocked its funny toucher and rich were talking about him this morning saying he said they had no credibility he would be great on the sports hub give him his own show lol

Is it a coincidence that over the weekend at a campaign appearance, the centerfold Senator had Schilling standing to his right and Smerlas on his left? Now that's class....

Maybe it's just me, but I think this is a tremendous loss for weei, his big kid in an adult body attitude was hilarious, I found it hard to doubt his spirit.  And as mentioned over on bostonsportsmedia.com he was actually the one guy on the show to genuinely care about sports.
His ability to laugh at himself, his goofy mispronunciations and his hilarity (intentional and otherwise) will be missed.
Hopefully he lands on his feet.

(and shocker, someone close to Glen Ordway gets a dagger)

I had thought about this possibility --Sheppard getting 86'd-- just before 98.5 got going. Since it was clear 'EEI was spending $$$ trying to beef up their web page, Pete --sensing vulnerability-- might hav tried to move to the Hub, preemptively. Was Wallach thinking this way?

The story will be, how hard did the BigO try to keep him?
