I would imagine that DiPetro and Cianci are safe, even in spite of their large salaries. It all comes down to billing, and I would think that they both bill nicely for WPRO.
On the other hand, anyone on a music station is vulnerable. Corporations have realized that people listen to music radio for the music and not the jocks. PRO-FM, Lite and Hot will all be hurt badly. Talkradio and spoken word in general is a different animal, though, and in my best estimation the future of radio. You're going to see more and more AM talkers migrate to FM and those AM frequencies will be brokered.
Although, I also agree that 790 is pretty much buried and in the ground. They can't compete with a very successful WEEI on FM in Rhode Island.
A) What makes you think DiPetro has a large salary? After all, he was out of work at the time he sought out WPRO? My guess is 80 - 90K. That's a far better deal then the Mayor.
B) How do you know what Buddy is billing? Yes there is a full spot load, but what is the average unit rate? My guess is Buddy is safe because he probably has an iron clad agreement for whatever the term is. I mean the guy is a lawyer. None of this 30 day severence stuff if you decide you don't like me anymore. YES, I think he is safe, but it will continue over time to be a stone cold financial mistake for WPRO. For Buddy to have ANY chance of making a financial score for Citadel, he must be in a drive time period where he can command a larger rate. This whole Buddy is done at 1PM "Goodbye everyone, we had a good show today." Then Ron comes on for an hour with a program called "The Buddy Show" is laughable! Who was on drugs when this idea was offered up? Mornings are out, because he already sounds tired at 10:00AM. Put Ron back AM Drive. DiPetro 10 to 2, then putty Buddy in PM Drive. Kiss Yorks a__ goodbye. Since The Score could soon be toast, you save Ron's PD salary and put him back mornings where he belongs and hope you get his audience share back. Plus, maybe one full time person in news GONE. Do away with all weekend live news. Fire Paul G (he doesn't program now) and have Ron handle those responsibilities.
C) Fire Barbara Hayes (if she hasn't been already) and pick up some of the experienced talent that's now available. That cluster has floundered on her watch and her lack of GM experience is showing. Hell, she couldn't even maintain the Public File. Speaking of Public File, one engineer has to go.
D) INCREASE commissions for sellers. YES, INCREASE commissions for all sellers and get some real top notch people and get out of their way. Sell for greater shares. Fewer sellers making MORE money.
E) The blonde with the huge tah-tahs in promotion, make her the promotions manager and FIRE everyone else. Hell what client and/or organization wouldn't do exactly as she says?
Just some ides to save money on the trail.
