I've had long wave with just about every radio I ever owned CADXER and to this day I've never hear a vocal anything, just hissing and noise, is there a trick, or do you live in a certain area that use this format?I'll start a thread where we can post our most recent DX catches on the various broadcast bands.
I will kick it off with my last nights DX listening session:
LONG WAVE
245 YZE ON GORE BAY, 11/28 2033 CST, morse code ID.
248 UL PQ MONTREAL, 11/28 2019 CST, morse code ID.
252 ALEGRIA, TIPAZA, CHAINE 3, 11/28 2113 CST, very faint signal with French language talk and background music. Tough copy due to extreme noise level on LW at my location. Matched with web stream.
MEDIUM WAVE (AM)
530 CUBA, Radio Rebelde, 11/28 1908 CST, live sporting event. Mixing with Radio Enciclopedia and in CIAO null. //5025 SW.
800 NETHERLAND ANTILLES, TWR, 11/28 1927 CST, weak in CKLW null with Spanish religious talk.
900 WKDA TN LEBANON, 11/28 1955 CST, religious talk in Spanish. Radio Luz mention. Also matched to web stream.

It was that pattern where I first heard WCKY years ago. They were still 1530 Homer at that point. NDA pattern until KFBK sunset, then directional towards the east coast. Can still hear them irregularly, especially late at night with either SportsCenter All Night or the late R.G. Stair screaming and preaching. From the KA7U SDR in Weiser, Idaho (ID/OR border): WCKY Cincinnati with Kentucky vs Missouri game "like a local" until KFBK faded up at their sunset and took over 1530.
They were really auroral a few days ago. The 740-860 Toronto combo, usually an evening beacon in Chicago (and all the way down to Augusta, Ga. on 740), was really hammered.Conditions have been poor lately due to flares and solar wind. Haven't bothered with AM DX since Christmas Eve.
This probably explains why SW seems so noisy lately.Conditions have been poor lately due to flares and solar wind. Haven't bothered with AM DX since Christmas Eve.
CKST from Vancouver, BC? In Vallejo?! That's neat! I'm not far from Vallejo, maybe I can catch it? EDIT: Yep! It's coming in loud and clear down here in the East bay, in the Lafayette/Moraga/Orinda area, which is about 30 minutes or 25 miles south southwest of Vallejo.Right now in Vallejo on my Eton Mini
I'm getting CKST-AM 1040 kHz Vancouver B.C
I'm looking for WHO, but I got this
I don't know if any Radio Clubs have any rules about this, but I don't see why they would. In my book, if a station is off the air, and you log another cochannel or adjacent channel on that frequency, it is a perfectly legitimate DX log. Plenty of logs happen after signoff of another station.I don't know if this counts but 1470 was off the air in Meriden, Connecticut for whatever reason at 11:AM and WNYY from Ithaca, NY came in, they're only a 1,000 watt class D station, I'm almost 300 miles away from there and they came in rather well.
My most notanle experience with this.....aside from a number of regulars missing....was WCLO from Janesville, WI comfortably on top of 1230. WCLO is a dayrime regular with a fair signal from a distave of about 55 miles to my northwest. I had never heard them at niight in more than 40 years at my current home location.Conditions have been poor lately due to flares and solar wind. Haven't bothered with AM DX since Christmas Eve.
Night time cheater on 700 wiped out WLW in Indianapolis. Suspect CJLI in Calgary.
WLW is like a "local" at night. No fading.
Interfering station discussed how to apply for a Visa to visit the U.S. had French language content.
Was gonna call the FCC todasy, but don't know if Canada in abrogating the AM radio treaty with the U.S.
It's possible. When I lived in Cleveland, OH, about 18 miles from the then-1-A WKYC (Now WTAM) on several occasions when we had particularly unusual atmospherics, I was able to null the local and get a 10 kw station from Venezuela; its all a matter of looking for the right conditions.I usually pick up XEX 730 most nights here in New England, I can't imagine getting 760 XEABC though, WJR 760 comes in like a local every night.
So does WJR here (even weak groundwave days) but XEABC was atop 760 for a good half hour at least overnight, without nulling. And there was no sign of CKGM 690 Montreal, XEN taking advantage.I usually pick up XEX 730 most nights here in New England, I can't imagine getting 760 XEABC though, WJR 760 comes in like a local every night.
