Post your latest DX

When I first heard them here about a yeaar and a half ago (or whenever), they dominated 1220 for a week or two, IIRC, I wouldn't be surprised if maintaining their pattern can be problematic. They're pretty close to the 50kw 1220 in Cleveland. Especially for a 10kw facility. It;s only about a four hour drive from Cleveland to St,Catherines, And that's via a a land route around Lake Erie!

Id say it is problematic with 9 towers!

CFAJ is my furthest east north american AM log from Alasak

And that is only about 170 miles, transmitter to transmitter!

Propagation must be good tonight, as my two favorites (KVIN 920 and KYNO 940) are coming in better than normal. Hardly local, but KYNO in particular is very strong, with some fading.

This is with my new-to-me Realistic TM-152 (An AM-only tuner capable of receiving AM stereo). I must say that it's a remarkably decent tuner, with good selectivity and sensitivity for a 37 year old analog tuner! And a "cheap" one at that!! (Radio Shack was selling some pretty good stuff back then).

This may be more fitting to 'post your latest DX'. Earlier today on my road trip, I stopped at the Big Arm unit of Flathead Lake State Park. Beautiful views of the lake and Mission Mountains, all still full of snow. I took out the ATS-909X and the Select-A-Tenna at a picnic shelter. I was able to pull out the following between 530-960 khz...all around 12:30-1PM MT

540 CBK Watrous (475 mi)
550 KBOW Butte (151 mi)
560 KMON Great Falls (143 mi)
570 weak UNID, CKSW? (335 mi)
580 weak UNID, KIDO? KANA Anaconda is defunct (would be 310 mi)
590 KQNT Spokane (137 mi)
600 KGEZ + 1 other, CJWW?
610 KOJM Havre (221 mi)
620 CKRM Regina (471 mi)
630 CHED Edmonton (387 mi) + unid
660 CFFR Calgary (203 mi)
680 KKGR East Helena (141 mi) + unid
690 CBKF-1 Gravelbourg (383 mi)
700 CJLI Calgary (200 mi) / KXLX Airway Heights (140 mi)
740 CBX Edmonton (382 mi)
750 trace of signal, CKJH? (would be 544 mi)
770 CHQR Calgary (208 mi)
790 KGHL Billings (310 mi)
800 CHAB Moose Jaw (439 mi)
810 KTBI Ephrata (242 mi)
840 CFCW Camrose (360 mi)
860 trace, CBKF2?
880 local KJJR
900 trace, likely CKBI (520 mi+)
920 KXLY Spokane (143 mi)
930 semi-local KMPT
940 trace, CJGX?
950 KCAP Helena (133 mi)
960 CFAC Calgary (220 mi)

Not bad for the west side of the Rocky Mountains! I wonder what this scan would look like in Cut Bank or Shelby...apart from the fact that KSEN would be overloading my radio ;-)

I think no one is complaning about KFIR having day power at night
This supported by the fact that there are no other clear channels on that frequency within a few hundred miles, so there's basically nothing to interfere with.

I wouldn't be surprised if the FCC grants them permission to broadcast officially and legally at 10kW 24/7, since the only reason they hadn't before was probably to prevent interference with the now-defunct KDWN, so with that gone, why not?

That wont happen....

1.) KDWN hasnt been deleted , they must protect what its lciensed for regardless if its using it.

Could they upgrade if KDWN comes back downgraded? Maybe

theyd never get 10kw at night, non d.... therred be overlap with someone somewhere

At 10 kw, they would have to put severe directional antenna limitations on the power sent towards Chicago. Look at the old directional pattern of KDWN... you had to be a good DXer to hear it in Utah!

And, as Paul says, there are likely other stations that require protection, too.

Heard wnix 1330 Greenville, Mississippi, sitting in the Walmart parking lot, in Flowood, ms
Radio Loc. says 3800 - non dir watts, Doing Talk, have heard Todd Starnes several days now, around noon - distance to Greenville from here, about 100 miles!

KOTZ is another one KFIR have to protect

Atmosphere must be off tonight. No DX here in New Mexico. Usually about this time KRLD from Dallas or WOAI from San Antonio will make an appearance, but not tonight. Getting a bit of a signal from 660AM KTNN, Window Rock, AZ. Also has a repeater here in ABQ on 1310.
New job starting next week is in the evenings after years of getting up at 4am, so trying to get in the habit of staying up late.
Maybe the west coast will come in later on tonight. I guess that's what I'm up to. Learning new habits while exploring old ones.

KOTZ and KFIR are 2000 miles apart, no protecting there

but KOTZ is a Class A anyways, it could go to 50kw

Unable to ID. 1290am only sort of listenable with classic country. No longer have the WRTH book, so will check wikipedia.
KOUU Pocatello, ID use radio-locator.com and sort by frequency/format

Remember, the first directional in the US, I believe, was 620 in Milwaukee and Tampa... a little over 1000 miles apart.

KJJR test overpowering everything else like a ton of bricks, morse code and more, into my hotel room in Kellogg ID. Only 102 miles away.

KJJR 880 heard here in Chicago as well at 0114 CDT during DX Test. Sweep tones, code IDs cutting through WCBS and CKLQ. Also unidentified Spanish speaking station fading in and out with music.
