Post your latest DX

I haven't been DXing much in a good while, with conditions poor the few times I've checked. Last night I took the XHDATA D-808 out to the front yard for a few minutes around 11pm and was rewarded with my first new logging in 3 months, KFSW 1650 in Ft Smith, AR. I tuned in just in time to hear a clear ID and Christian music. I've previously heard 4 other stations on 1650, odd since KFSW is the closest station of them to my location.

At any rate, I hope this is a sign of autumn and the start of DX season (although it doesn't feel like autumn, with today's high of 102).
Conditions do seem to be improving. Heard a new one last night, KSEO 750, 220 watts from Durant OK, in WSB's null. The most interesting thing about this was that it was mixing with CKJH. Haven't heard that one since last spring.

CKJH was in here at my location a few nights ago. Of course here, if you null WSB, CKJH also gets nulled. So what I heard was CKJH under and mixing at times with WSB. Also for the first time in several months.

Agree that conditions have been good lately. Hope it continues. The low end of the band was lit up this morning. For the most part it had been pretty empty of late. Examples. I had WKRC under a strong reliable KTRS on 550. 600 was a very strong WMT. But not strong enough to keep CKAT from being audible underneath.

That CKAT has become a pest here, hi! The last re-logging I have of it is from this past January; that was :45 minutes of them, solid. But previously, they had been a logging from May.'22. CKAT must be a wonderful pilot station for northern latitude reception. But the regular here at night used to be a weak and, for me, probitively directional WCAO Baltimore. And once, there was an old Queens NYC friend all alone there -- WICC from Connecticut.
I suppose I shouldn't be looking a gift moose in the mouth. Music on AM is rare, and I've always enjoyed C&W.

Here's WCAO''s 24/7 pattern, by the way. We're in a NE null, halfway between the 'H' in Hazleton and the circle for downtown Pottsville. :

Absolutely!

It's annoying to have to DX stuff so hard, because where I'm at, many distant stations don't come in very well, even with my MLA-30+ and AN-100, but it's still fun, because over the past year or two, there have been quite a few AM stations playing music (English language oldies and classic hits, mostly). There are a few that have been around awhile, but many are relatively new.

They are:
  1. KYNO 940 Fresno, CA
  2. KMBY 1240 Monterey, CA
  3. KVMI 1270 Tulare, CA
  4. KXBX 1270 Lakeport, CA: Can't DX this one, because 500 watts day power doesn't reach this far south, and 100 watts night power barely gets past Lakeport's city limits, let alone the county's, so it's basically a special treat for locals (I did discover that it reaches pretty far into the Sacramento Valley, as far north as a few miles north of Willows on I-5, which to me is impressive for 500 watts).
  5. KRKK 1360 Rock Springs, WY
  6. KRKO 1380 Everett, WA
  7. KEJB 1480 Eureka, CA
  8. KUBA 1600 Yuba City, CA
After years of hearing almost no music on AM (aside from KXBX, which has always been music; I hope it never flips to talk), I'm now treated to seven music stations!

Now if only at least one of them were local, I'd be all set (KUBA is closest and comes in as a weak, but listenable local during the day, but they play mostly 80s and 90s fare (which is fine, but I'm more into 60s-70s), and KXBX, second closest, doesn't count because it's also the weakest at 500/100 watts day/night).

With the exception of KUBA, KRKK and KXBX, ive heard the others up here in alaska at night.... somewhat regularly if you know when and where to look

I've heard all except for little KXBX, which even their 500 watt critical hours power gets walloped by KBZZ and/or KAJO before they go to night power. And then there's the little Christmas beacon of KVMI Tulare. Known for going to all-Xmas early in November. Mannheim Steamroller cuts through the slop quite well. KGAY down in southern CA is also not logged here yet.

Also playing music from central -ish california... KSTN 1420 Stockon, CA.. it and KVMI were sunrise regulars in Wy....... ive heard KSTN A few times up here in AK. I've heard KVMI like twice

Indeed, CKAT is a "canary in the coal mine" for me, If it's in,,,which is not all that often....it generally means the path to the north is open for busines. Otherwise, WMT is the most common night visitor on 600 at my location

First time AM DXing this fall. It's rather auroral tonight. One new one tonight!

1390 - KLOC CA, Turlock; TOH ID for KLOC 1390 and K290CN 105.9, Turlock, Radio Catolica, back into traditional Spanish religious music, under local KBBO, 2258 PT 9/20/23. NEW #830, 5KW at 624 miles. KLTX is usually dominant during aurora. Not tonight...

1460 has KRRS Santa Rosa mixing with KCNR Shasta. KUTI Yakima has been off the air for over 2 weeks now. I'm not sure whether they are on a silent STA or what, but 1460 has been wide open since the start of the month. I'm not hearing any sign of SS sports, needed KENO Las Vegas.
980 KFWB L.A. La Mera Mera very strong. 990 KATD/XECL mix. 1010 KCHJ over KIQI.
1300 KCMY Carson City mixed with Spanish (?) maybe...not hearing KROP's 500 watts.

On 730 is a very weak signal with 'Semi-Charmed Life' Third Eye Blind. Which is XEX Mexico City! // stream https://26153.live.streamtheworld.com/TDW730AM_SC
only 2nd time ever at 2200 miles! They run music overnight, just like XEW-900. Looks like they are running 60 KW now.

2305 local, full W Deportes ID into a Spanish rap song.

There are several Oregon stations in and out on various channels, like KFIR, KEX, and KPOJ, but most of the channels seem to be CA, NV, or further south.

Strong 1360 KRKK Rock Springs noted instead of a CA station, so some channels are already (at 2320 PT) going to semi-Au mode.

Good stuff. Thx for sharing.

I can't speak for others. but I've found AMDX to have been a mixed bag at my location thes past couple of weeks. A few nights were really good. A few others, not so much.

Highlight for me this morning two hours before local sunrise was longtime pest KGYN from Guyman, OK on 1210. Under WPHT. Haven't heard them in several months, and thought they had been behaving themselves. Perhaps not.

Cant be that auroral or id have squat on the radio.. and i have way more than squat

I've heard AM 900 Mexico City up here a few times

KYMX Sacramento, of course. Looks like 113 miles from your spot. I'm betting aircraft scatter. Wonder if some SF stations show up on the higher peaks? I know SF stations make it to Yosemite.

KEX 1190 and KEJB 1480 were coming in almost like locals for a bit earlier, and KYNO sounds like junk. Clearly the skywaves are favoring northern signals tonight, although KVMI 1270 seems to be coming in somewhat well. An exception?

KGOW 1560 Bellaire (Houston) Texas was heard in western Alaska Saturday night September 23rd. I dont have internet access when DXing but I'm very familiar with what vietnamese sounds like and theres only one Vietnamese outlet on 1560 in the US
