Sima BIrach also owns WCXI 1160 Fenton (30 kHz from WDFN 1130) and 770 WTOR Youngstown, NY (Toronto, ON) (30 kHz from CFZM 740). WNWI 1080 Oak Park, IL is 30 kHz from WXES 1110 (recently WMBI), and WMFN 640 Peotone, IL is 30 kHz from WSCR 670. Squeezing in 30 kHz separated stations into large Metropolitan Areas is the defining Birach move. In the US, the 25 mV/m contours of two stations 30 kHz apart is the restriction. I'd have to look at the Agreement between the US and Canada to see what that restriction is.
The move of WMFN to 640 has prevented any of us in the Chicago area from hearing KFI again.

Looking at a few applications, there does not appear to be a 30 kHz restriction between stations in the Agreement between the US and Canada. The application for WTOR 770 shows that there is no overlap of their 15 mV/m contour over land with CFZM 740 in Canada. It just reaches the edge of Lake Ontario. But any requirement seems to have disappeared from the Agreement.
I knew that WNWI were co-owned, and also WTOR. Doesn't Birach also own WNDZ, 750 in Portage, Indiana? If that's true, he's also got WGN and WBBM within 30kw in the same market. WTOR is another interesting case. The signal is good in Toronto. Lisenable, but still noticeably weaker than CFZM. It's also listenable for about 100 miles going north from Toronto on the 400 freeway.

Toronto is also a great fit for the Birach business model. A very large city (roughly the size of Chicago) with a very diverse population.

DX ALERT!!!

Anyone need South Dakota? 1000 KSOO Sioux Falls is on DAY POWER right now. Go get 'em! I've got something floating under KOMO mentioning the Astros, and I need them!

10:26pm and again around 11pm, 1050 KLOH Sioux Falls, SD (600 mi, NEW!) with modern cointry music. I matchd a Chris Stapleton song via Soundhound to KLOH's online playlist

And of course, KSOO Sioux Falls, sometimes local in strength, with ESPN Radio.

On the Maui SDR on 1530, WCKY Cincinnati temporarily took over KFBK Sacramento. Wow!

I confirmed it was WCKY by going to the SDR in northwest Indiana where it was strong and playing it at the same time.

It matched up.

I've never heard WCKY from Hawaii before now.

I heard KLOH this morning also. For about a half hour before sunrise, mostly with a good signal until second adjacent local WNVR splatter blew them away. I also heard them before sunrise once about a month ago. Unless something has changed, I beleive the KLOH COL is actually Pipestone, MN, which is near Sioux Falls.

Thanks for the info. Definitely similar M.O.
WNDZ was a regular catch at sign on for me in Laramie, WY when KMMJ 750 Grand Island NE hadnt signed on for the day yet or was at 500 watt pre sunrise power.

I caught WNDZ literally, as it was signing on with the sign on message and anthem .. several times.

Excellent! I went for it later after I read your post, but only heard KFBK. Early in the evening the Iceland receiver was dead, but it just opened up to WWKB, WBZ, a combo of CFRB and WINS and WLS.

WCKY is in the background of KFBK again tonight.

Also, just like last night, the lower part of the AM band is almost dead.

Regulars like KFI and KNBR are very weak.

All night 1620 KYIZ and 1420 KRIZ were off the air, and still off the air now. 1420 I heard KITI (Centralia WA) and presumed KUJ Walla Walla WA -- nice to hear them for a change. On 1620 I got the Catholic station out of Sacramento. Conditions were decent during the evening, took a turn for the grainy around 5 a.m. or so.

KITI is the dominant station on 1420 here some 1700 or so miles away in central Alaska. It's mostly all i hear on 1420.. sometimes not so well, sometimes fairly well. The only other log I think i have on 1420 is an occasional KSTN Stockton, CA

Here's a clip of KITI up here, including a KITI jingle at the 21 second mark

Another new one for me at my home location....

WREC 600 from Memphis. 5am CDT this morning with TOH positive ID. On top of the channel WMT nulled and a fair, but steady signal. Radio was the C Crane Skywave. I know a number of you guys have heard this one, and I've heard it myself during my travels and on beach vacations on the Gulf. But this is the first time I've heard it at my home location. I presume they were running 5kw day pattern.

Conditions were generally good this morning before sunrise on the lower end of the dial. I had spent about a half hour on 1340 waiting to see if something would break through. Nothing did, so I "went low" and heard CBK blowing away WAUK on 540,,,,something that hasn't happened in a while. Then there was also something trashing KTRS on 550. I couldn't ID it, but I suspect either WSAU or WKRC. And finally, CKRM was in on 620 with WTMJ nulled.

For the past hour (1915 - 2015 CDT) I have been hearing WUMY Memphis, TN on 830 with Spanish language vocals, ads with mentions of Memphis. Over/under WCCO. Matched with web stream. New log for me.

I had WREC with quite a strong and steady signal around 1945 CDT today.
