Post your latest DX

Right now in the southwest suburbs of Chicago:

1480 Kentwood, Mich. (4 p.m. CT), an NPR station owned by Grand Valley State U. that is going silent on Fri 1/7. New; another one I'd never looked for, then heard it was shutting down, and an easy catch. Legal ID at the top of the hour, then into NPR News but with the old ABC Contemporary News sounder laid over it at the station (I presume). Lesley Gore's "It's My Party" right out of the network news. Interesting presentation.

A few new ones to report, hope to have more time to DX in the coming days. Location is Houston TX, times CST

@wildthangjim Funny, I can barely hear 1480-KNGO here in north DFW at night, although, I am only 36 miles from the transmitter. KQAM Wichita, KS is the most heard nighttime station on 1480 at my loc.

DFW, Texas — Sangean ATS-909X

New catch just now 1/5/2022 2135 CST:

KATL 770 Miles City, MT poor but listenable o/XE in N/S null of local KAAM. Ad for M&H Convenience stores, singing ID K-A-T-L, followed by ColdPlay song. Still coming in as I post this.

Coldplay on AM? That must sound interesting! I wonder if they are still on 10,000 watts of day power since their nighttime pattern throws a null in your direction?

There is a West Coast DX opportunity tonight as it was announced that KFI AM 640 from LA will off the air for transmitter maintenance work from 11:00 PM PST to 5:00 AM PST. Let’s see what breaks through the slop on 640 when KFI is off the air!

Radio Progreso Cuba in very faintly without KFI in. But I also have a second station buried with SS female singing.
Oh, and KATL-770 is *all over* Calgary/ABQ. Has to be 10,000 watt day pattern.

I listened over an hour to 640khz last night and only had Radio Progreso's tropical music and talk from Cuba along with that second SSer here and there at threshold. You'd think I could at least have a try for KWPN, WOI, or CFMJ, but they weren't in.

Meanwhile, off-topic, woke up to the biggest snowstorm of my life - it is still lightly falling, but totals are nearly 2 feet in Ellensburg. YIKES!

I heard music on 770 as well, but it was on the 4th, I believe.

Off topic: how did local radio and TV cover the blizzard?

Local radio kind of hints that there "may be a snowstorm" or a blizzard (Thanks a lot, Don Day), while local TV covers it during the local news slots, with the occasional scrolling bar. But overall, around the Northwest it's sub-par. In a way, I'm okay with that because both Wyomingites and Washingtonians (Hi, crainbebo) are used to excessive blizzards coming about three times a year. All I actually need to know can be found on the National Weather Service Facebook page, and no more. I do give radio/TV a long chance, but they manage to be underwhelming.

Central Washington news won't cover anything until 5PM, always. Mt. Rainier could be erupting and they would wait until 4:58:30, exactly. Other than scrolling closure bars. KXLE no longer has anything local since Steve Scellick retired from the morning show, it's all satellite and unmanned country music. KXLE-AM is unmanned satellite talk. You'll never hear any local stuff.

1070 AM, KHMO, Hannibal, MO/ Qunicy, IL, the other night here in central Texas north of Austin, south of Temple.
I'd never heard that one before.

Both WGVS 850 and WGVU 1480 will go silent tomorrow. Your last chance, at least for a while, will be tomorrow morning when WGVU goes to 2000 watts nondirectional Day pattern. WGVS 850 is 1000 watts DA-1, which was very tight to the West to protect KOA 850, won't likely be heard except in Northern Michigan.

And, now I too can confirm that I've heard KATL. It is strong and clear on my radio right now besides the occasional fade out, and it completely stomps on KKOB, and swamps it out. They must be playing that Dial Global format, because the music sounds like rap mixed in with the occasional contemporary. I have gotten the call letters twice, hopefully it will stay with me til the TOTH so I can record the ID.
The question is, are they on Daytime power (10kw) or night (1kw)? Again, KATL is strong here. Not like hyper-local, but right in there, and without static

In the Chicago area, KATL is there for the second night running, stronger than last night, sometimes overwhelming WABC.

I just realized this is a new state for me (35 plus DC) on AM. Long ago in the analog TV era, KYUS-3 from the same Miles City was an e-skip visitor a number of times.
