1550 WPFC in Baton Rouge, LA, has been missing (presuming that it’s off air) since late last night. At that time and a little earlier this morning I was hearing a weak KMAD in Madill, OK, with Christian talk and music. I’ve only ever heard KMAD once before.

Sorry for the newb questions...but what is an Es opening, and how does one know when and where they are?
It's extremely difficult to predict Sporadic-E. It will often show up on lower bands before it reaches into the FM band and higher.

The best we have now is to pay attention and be on your toes. Setting up alerts with an account at fmlist.org and looking at dxmaps.com is the best you can do. Also, listening for 6M ham band SSB and sideband is also useful. Especially if it becomes short.

If luck is on your side you can have a Multihop Sporadic-E opening and really push the distance out extremely far. There has been Trans Oceanic FM mulithop paths.

Here is an extreme example of it

Why not just use standard MP3 for these clips?? WMA is OLD & OUTDATED

Why not just use standard MP3 for these clips?? WMA is OLD & OUTDATED
It may be, but it's still reasonably well supported (especially on PCs) so there's no technical reason not to use it if one chooses.

It would be easier to simply use MP3 since it's much more common and is universally supported, but again, there's nothing wrong with using WMA if that's what they want to use.

One Es log last night, it was a very weak opening. Heard at 5:25PM PT, 6/15

91.7 - KNOG Nogales, AZ; with weak ID 'Manantial FM', back into Spanish religious music. Had the recorder but couldn't get the recording in time. Also heard an UNID station on 88.3 with jazz vocals (could be KSDS San Diego, but a friend in Moses Lake also had South Dakota, so could have been KESD SD). KNOG is NEW #843, 50KW at 1171 miles.

Been messing with my Tecsun PL-310ET on AM in Vallejo

I got 1480 KEJB Redding, Matched the Live Stream
I like KEJB. It's no secret I like oldies, so it's a treat when this comes in.

It comes in pretty regularly at night, especially late, with relatively little fading for extended periods, especially if conditions are favorable to DX reception from up north. Usually when conditions are more or less neutral, KEJB will regularly trade places with Vietnamese-language KVNR, which is almost the same distance from my location as KEJB.

So this June has been a horrible Es month. Not just for me but for everybody.

A few things have happened but it's been pretty weak and nothing above 100 Mhz. Monday I had the usual West Texas to New Mexico path here.

Yesterday some very light brief fade ups which is likely around the Oklahoma city area.

Still, The best of this season has been Houston back in late May.

Nutley, NJ. strong tropo towards the East. First time catch. WKFY 101.5, Koffee FM from East Harwich, MA, Around 227 miles as it's transmitter is in Orleans on Cape Cod. WFCC 107.5 and 101.9 WCIB could also be heard when WBLS and WFAN were nulled. Mind you, both WBLS and WFAN are 10 miles from my location with the Empire in view!

Lately local 1420 KRIZ has been off the air, so it's been a combination of Walla Walla's News-talk KUJ and Centralia WA's oldies / classic hits KITI.

One is maybe 70-80 miles south of me (I'm near Seattle), the other one maybe 250+ miles to the east.

Eastern Upstate SC yesterday:

Decent Tropo was able to hear 101.5 from Atlanta (WKHX / 175 Miles SW) even over the semi local 101.5 WOHS in Shelby NC (W268CU / 15 Miles North)

Also, local 103.3 (WLTS / Air1) was off the air yesterday due to power failure, and with it off, I was able to hear a mix / weak signals of either 103.3 WVEE in Atlanta (175 Miles SW) and also 103.3 Streets in Charlotte NC (W277CB / 45 Miles East).

KITI is really the only 1420 ive ever logged here, and quite well at times. I've heard KSTN like 3 or 4 times, not that well, not for long.

New FM log this morning, due to a wildfire that caused power to go off for 25,000+ people in Yakima, and many radio stations / TV stations went off, some are still on dead air only.

103.1 - CHTT BC, Victoria, with 'Mr. Jones' Counting Crows around 11:45AM PT this morning. Matched playlist. Also heard KAFE-104.1 very strong at that point, nearly cueing RDS. NEW #859, 20KW at 186 miles.

I also heard KZZL-99.5 Pullman, KZLY-99.5 Ione OR, an UNID on 99.7 that didn't sound like country music (maybe KLMY Long Beach?), KQFM-93.7 Hermiston, and KLKY-96.1 Stanfield. None of these are possible with the local translators/full-power FMs on, the 99.5 because of HD hash from 99.7.
