From Houston TX

Out with the dog early this morning, heard a new one at 0710 CDT, XEANT 770 Tancanhuitz de los Santos w/announcement in Spanish and traditional acoustic folk music //stream. Fair/good signal at times mixing with KKOB and XEACH Monterrey.

This makes 500 stations logged from Houston!
@wildthangjim Here in north DFW, I also logged XEANT on 10/28 for a new station, it was dominating 770 over XEACH and KKOB at 8:00pm CDT.

Also, I finally logged WABC, this morning 10/31 at 0400 CDT. WABC was poor to fair, mixing with one of the XE's with no KKOB. Clear top of hour ID then into news. My local KAAM continues to be silent. Congrats on the 500 stations.

I'm not sure what was going on the other night but my little Radiwow R108 was getting KBOI instead of either the local KMZQ here in Vegas or the much closer KIRN Los Angeles. I checked the Pahrump SDR and KBOI much stronger. Not bad for a little radio inside a stucco apartment

Thanks! Congrats on logging WABC. I've been trying since KAAM went off, but no luck yet (should try 0400 I guess). XEACH is usually pretty strong here and right on bearing w/NYC, making it tough to null. I seem to recall at one time XEACH was off from midnight to 5am, but KAAM was always a problem.

Southern conditions tonight. KGDP-660 Oildale CA all alone with Punjabi programming, no sign of anything else (and KTNN has been off-air). Meanwhile, I had Game 7 coverage on 1130 tonight. Turns out it was KRDU Dinuba CA (Christian Talk). KRDU is NOT a Dodgers affiliate yet they were airing the coverage! Could it be an overflow station?

Congrats Dodgers. *BACK TO BACK*

KRDU has carried some sports games... they did some local Fresno area college sports.. heard it a few times when i lived in Laramie and whatever team it was actually came to play in laramie once.

The LA dodgers affiliate list it out of date because KAVL isnt on the air and if it is, it isnt running sports

Have you ever gotten WJR?

Thanks for that info! It's amazing they're able to create those nulls with just two towers.
Two-tower AM arrays create a symmetrical pattern. Same on "either side".

See page 18 onward at https://www.worldradiohistory.com/B...-Radio/Directional-Antenna-Handbook-Jones.pdf

Think of a two tower DA as a single round balloon that you squeeze with two fingers. There are hundreds of possible symmetrical patterns based on how much power goes to each tower, the tower spacing and the phase of the signal sent to each.

WSGW 790 has a six tower array. The two three tower arrays are slightly doglegged, and they are spaced and phased to create another two tower pattern with each three. Built in 1950, it was an extraordinarily complex array at the time. It is on Uncle Henry Road NE of Saginaw. The pattern has the major lobe NW toward Bay City, and a large minor lobe SW toward Saginaw. The FCC allowed them to identify as Saginaw Bay City long before you could say any town like today.

I assume you were hearing it on the SW lobe.

Over the years, WSGW 790 has been heard frequently on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago in the Daytime, shielded from WBBM 780 by tall buildings that reinforce and cancel the signals. IBOC use has made this difficult to impossible when used by WBBM.

Any number of towers in a line produces a symmetrical Theoretical Pattern and Standard Pattern. Augmentation may make the Pattern Asymmetrical. Doglegs create asymmetry, as well as multitier (rows of towers).

Scroll down to see tower arrangement and pattern.

250 miles south of DFW, I have yet to pull in WJR. At night, it is all XEABC. WCCO is another one I haven’t received since the 80’s. JimSatx has better DX capabilities and may have pulled in both. He’s 35 miles from me.
Over here in Houston, XEABC dominates most nights with WJR often audible underneath. If memory serves, WJR used to be more competitive with XEABC 5+ years ago.

WSGW can be heard here in Kenosha, WI all day. Not strong, but listenable. The fact that WBBM has very narrow audio helps.

I took a trip across the top of Indiana a few weeks ago, as far as Auburn (north of Ft. Wayne). Every time I did a quick band scan, WSGW was in there.

Gotta love mid-afternoon skip, when everyone is still on day power & pattern.

2 new ones @ 2:45 PM CST: WION Ionia MI 1430 (Detroit area). 4,700 Watts ND Day, playing rock music. Their website says they are in AM Stereo
WHKY Hickory, NC 1290. 50,000 Watts pointed primarily west. "Talk Radio 1290 AM & 102.3 FM"

My favorite mexican station was XEABCA 820 which id hear at sunrise in Wyoming after WBAP burned off its skywave.

Loved the several minutes of barnyard animal noises they'd air at like 6am

WION is actually nowhere near Detroit - it's about 25-30 miles east of Grand Rapids
