Post your latest DX

Yesterday, Nov. 25, prior to sunrise, I logged a station I’ve been seeking for quite a while - 1320 XEARZ in Mexico City, 5 kW, 700 miles.

I first heard it nearly three years ago down at South Padre Island, TX. Here in San Antonio, KWHN in Ft. Smith, AR, and especially KXYZ in Houston, TX, dominate the frequency at night/sunrise.

Propagation was in my favor as I had the radio (Digitech AR1780) aimed N/S. At 5:50 a.m. I heard snatches of weak instrumental music (“Gracias a La Vida”) and the Mexican national anthem. This was followed by “The Rose,” “The Girl From Ipanema,” and “Morir de Amor, all weak and in/out but matching XEARZ’s stream before the station was gone for good.

I heard XEARZ a few times pre-2021 when they were still on 1650. With local KXYZ on 1320, haven't heard them since they moved.

When you think of many things 'old that are new again' like the retro interest in vinyl records, wouldn't it be great if oldies made a big comeback on AM in major markets on high power stations.

It will never happen, though.
There's KYNO, a full power clear channel station playing oldies on 940 AM. It's pretty much the only station in the US broadcasting oldies at 50,000 watts.

It's definitely an outlier, though, and I suspect that One Putt's otehr stations are at least in part subsidizing KYNO, which is fine with me.

They were able to upgrade their transmitter and rebuild their ground system this year, so they must be doing something right.

Location: DFW, Texas -- Receiver: Sangean ATS-909X using internal antenna.

New stations added to the log this past week:

590 WVLK KY Lexington - 11/22 0100 – ID "Your news, traffic, and weather station WVLK 97.3". Fading in/out with KXSP (Omaha), KLBJ (Austin), and XEPH (CDMX). KY #5

590 XEPH DF CDMX 11/22 0500 - Music // web stream, fair with fades. Mixing with KLBJ. Mexico #63

630 KYFI MO St. Louis – 11/26 2110 – Fair with Bible Broadcast Network talk // web stream, KHOW nulled. MO #31.

780 KSPI OK Stillwater – 11/29 1709 - Fair with ID "94.3" then played 'Girls, Girls, Girls' by Motley Crew. WBBM normally takes over the channel by this time. OK #37.

1440 KETX TX Livingston – 11/28 0529 - Briefly on top before fading out. ID "102.3 The Eagle". Ad for East Texas Land Clearing. TX #158.

1470 WVOL TN Berry Hill – 11/29 2110 - Faded up with Aretha Franklin tune // web stream. Mixing with KDHN (Dimmitt, TX) and KWRD (Henderson, TX). TN #18.

1480 XETKR NL Monterrey - 11/30 0600 - Good in KNGO null, mixing with KQAM. Anthem, followed by announcements and ranchero music. Mexico #64.

1700 WJCC FL Miami Springs – 11/24 2115 – Very weak with male preaching in French language. Trading places with equally weak WEUP (Huntsville) via long fades. Semi-local KKLF running an open carrier, usually dominant KBGG (Des Moines) silent, KVNS (Brownsville) nulled. FL #14.

Daytime DX alive and well. KHIT-1450 Reno heard this morning at 9:30AM with local ads and a KRNV weather update. 1KW at 490 miles. ALL ALONE TOO
KTWO-1030 and several northern California stations are in quite well. KTKZ-1380 all alone and very strong.

Found a hot new KiwiSDR in very rural Douglas County WA up the ridge from Chief Joseph Dam. It's the "MVR5" KiwiSDR. There's hardly any noise on this receiver.
On 1710, KON667 Jackson WY's Yellowstone loop on bear safety is in at over 530 miles. Another one underneath may be Travis AFB in California.
Meanwhile, KKOH-780 in Reno has been screwing up since at least 9:30. They were in a full 1000 hz tone all the way to the TOH, went into ABC news, and it's now an open carrier. A 1000hz tone should get out a long ways. WBBM is easily audible with KKOH OC. KQWB-1660 ND is nearly overtaking Merced CA at times.
Loud signals from CFRY-920, CJCA-930, KDYL-1060 SLC, CFYM-1210, etc.
KLBS-1330 Los Banos mixed with Coast to Coast. I assume it's KNSS in Wichita. Also hearing a weak CJYM Rosetown. They were way stronger years ago. On 1360 it's KRKK Rock Springs WY and KHNC Johnstown CO mixed, KRKK with oldies and KHNC with Alex Jones.

EDIT - finishing the night on 1300. WHO is running all-Christmas music on this frequency other than KPMI in MN? It's all traditional songs, Johnny Mathis, Carpenters, Percy Faith. No IDs. KLER ID and KOLY SD also mixed.

This is a station I've heard many times at night but never during the day.
I caught WOR at 3 p.m. EST today in Gahanna, Ohio. It was a tough listen next to WLW, but the mere fact that I heard a faint voice there at all during the daytime made me stay. Eventually an iHeart promo was a big clue, then I heard WOR mentioned twice at the top of the hour.
Probably one of my better catches ever. New York is 500~ miles east of me as the crow flies, and at that frequency, I was shocked at that signal making it this far two-plus hours before sunset.

730 CKDM would pound in 2 to 2 1./2 hours before sunset when i lived in SE WY, regularly. KLFE 1590 would regularly be heard until about 1030am mtn. There were days i could hear 1070 KNX all day... though at high noon, it was barely a carrier. 1560 KNZR was audible as early as about 2 or 3 pm and until about 10-11am the next day in WY

Sitting on the Bermuda SDR before East Coast sunset, and there are a few AM stations audible...nearly all Maritimes!

590 VOCM NF
610 likely WTEL Philadelphia
620 CKCM NF w/ VOCM IDs and Christmas music, local ads for Grand Falls-Windsor
640 CBN NF
750 CBGY NF
800 VOWR NF, country Christian music at decent peaks
990 CBY NF
1140 CBI NS
1270 CJCB NS w/ Country Top 40, Fitz
1370 WDEA Ellsworth ME with Christmas music, Beach Boys, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, ID.
1390 tentative WEGP ME
1400 CBG NF all alone

St. Johns, Newfoundland is over 1,200 miles from Bermuda. Sydney NS is close to 1000 miles, Ellsworth ME is 869 miles.

I'm in Sebastopol, California (Sonoma County, north of the Bay Area) this week and was checking the radio this morning. I'm hearing a clear and non-fadey KNWN 1000 Seattle right now, 9:45am PST, 2 hours after Seattle sunrise (2.5 hours after mine). Transmitter is 625 miles north of me. This seems too far for groundwave but the lack of fades doesn't sound like skywave to me. That said, I'm not familiar with the conditions out here. Is this typical in the Bay Area this time of year?

Update: 30 minutes later, KNWN is gone, but I'm hearing KVI 570 mixing w/(I believe) KLAC. I'm also hearing KOGO 600.

WDEA really gets out. They were coming in strongly on the Azores SDR a few weeks ago, about 2,200 miles away.

SE Wisconsin- 2 new early afternoon skip catches 12/8/25:

WNQM 1300 Nashville, TN. 50,000 Watts Day, very solid signal @ 2:30 PM CST
WJFK 1580 Morningside, MD (DC area). 50,000 Watts Day, near local signal @ 2:45 PM CST

Skip has been in early pretty much every day the past week. All the usual big night signals were there today ( KTRS, WTVN, CFZM, WFAN, WABC, WHSQ, WHAS, CFRB, WONE, KDKA, KMOX, WWVA, KSTP, WLAC, WCKY, CHHA ).

Really nice opening towards the northeast tonight. Very strong signals from several Saskatchewan stations. CKBI-900 is 20 over S9, also hearing CBKF-2 860, CJGX-940, CFYM-1210 and CFSL-1190 at above-average levels. 1150 has KSEN Shelby MT with U2, mixed with Kelowna. No sign of very rare CJSL Estevan. CJOB-680 right on top of KNBR.
On 870 is "Summit Radio" from CKIR Invermere BC, 250W near the AB border.

On 1410 is a mention of iHeart and "KIIX1410.com", Fort Collins CO at a kilowatt. KMYC might be under them. Noting CHHA-1610 Toronto under local TIS as well!! // stream, Spanish rhythmic. Bob Seger on 1630 is KCJJ IA // stream, then KVAM WY came barreling back in; possible English on 1650 under KBJD which usually means KCNZ; KQWB-1660 easy nulling KBRE.
